Default HDTV with built-in "blade" blu-ray. Would you buy one?

Couldn't find my old necro thread so I started a new one.

Long ago I started a thread about HDTV's with built-in "blade"
blu-ray players and "cable boxes". "Blade" meaning the boxes are easily removable, thus upgradable and repairable.

Think of it, technically, not only could you keep the player current with firmware updates, but you could keep the TV firmware current. Up until now, we live with whatever firmware comes with the TV for life. I don't know about you, but I would like to update the firmware on my HDTV's.

Would you buy one?

hold on,are you speaking of the the new hdtv's that have a blu-ray drive made into them like the tv +dvd combo's that are overly expensive like the ones they have now?...

i wouldn't buy one, knowing that the ps3 is pretty cheap for a blu-ray player and cost effective with the things it can do....Steam Video from the Home network,Play Video Games (If U need it For that,But its there!,and i use it,so that's a plus for me)..

PLUS!,i have an hdtv already and it should Last forever!,why buy a new one unless i really need it?.

Would If these Tv's have No HDMI output for 7.1 sound to hook up with your Receiver?..then what?...be stuck with the 2 speakers on the tv?.....

still need more Spec's about this...

As implied in the poll, assume it was up to spec and 7.1 is supported. Along with needed ports and such.

I voted the 'no' option as I simply wouldn't want to have the option period as I rather just have it seperate to begin with regardless of functionality.

I want it seperate just for personal reasons not for functionality. It just seems like your movie player should be seperate than the TV in case you wanted to get a new TV you wouldn't have to get rid of your Blu-Ray player as well.

Scenario #1: HDTV goes bad or is damaged. That model is no longer manufactured so you can't purchase the same thing. So much for that "blade" BD player!

Scenario #2: Same as above, but now it's the BD player. Since you can't purchase a similar replacement and rear inputs are most likely limited on such models, you're out of luck.

Scenario #3: New technology in HDTVs or BDs comes out. If you choose to upgrade, you're stuck purchasing both even if you wanted to only upgrade 1.

You're actually increasing your chances of paying more over time with a device like that. You're also doubling your chances of failure as the device is made more complex (what with being encased in an all-in-one enclosure). Overall I wouldn't touch it for high-end video/BD playback with a 10ft pole.
