Default Sony BDU-X10S problems

My Blu-Ray discs were playing fine. I had Power DVD 7.3 installed. I was watching "There Will Be Blood" and it froze right at the point that Daniel Day Lewis's char meets the guy claiming to be his brother as they sit down to the table when he mentions "You just now decided to show up?" I chalked that up to my Windows Media Center starting to record and that I may need another stick of memory. I only have 2 gig in the PC right now. So, I went to the software disc I got with the drive and it linked me to Sony's website and I updated the firmware. Now, the drive does not even recognize Blu-Ray discs. I wondered if Windows' drivers were not up to date. But it kept saying that the driver for the drive was the best--- CDROM.SYS. I wonder if there is supposed to be a BDROM.SYS? I do have Service Pack 1 installed. I did that after this stuff happened. DVDs and CDs run fine in it still. I wonder if there is a way to back-flash the firmware?

Yes it is. I'm wondering if the firmware was unnesesary and if there is a way to "reflash" the drive.

I'm not sure about reflashing the drive, but with my Lite-On I have never needed to flash the firmware (even though there are new firmware releases for it - until it breaks - I'm going to keep it as is). Are you using an N-Force motherboard? I believe that flashing the firmware was unnecessary.

N-Force, is that a brand name? If so, what specs on my motherboard could I check to see if it is what you are talking about if it is not a N-Force.

I am sure you got the gist of what I meant but reflash I mean to reset the firmware to factory specs. I need to call Sony but I am too scared to.
