Blockbuster UK - Blu-ray Forum

My local Blockbuster store has started to carry Blu Ray movies for sale and rent.
I asked the lad working in the shop when the hd-dvd discs would be in store, he told me that Sony had done a deal with Blockbuster UK and they would not be stocking hd-dvd disc period!

If this is indeed correct this is massive news for Blu Ray in the UK.
Anyone else from the UK confirm this?

I can confirm that my 2 nearest BB's are getting BR's within the next month.

1 shop said they had no intentions to stock HD-DVD and the other said they had no idea.. but maybe in time.

I have said it all along, if the UK picks up a HD format.. it will be BR.

I wont rent tbh, just buy.

My g/f is also a member of lovefilm and told me they have about 40 Blu Ray discs there for rent now and 3 PS3 games..
Not sure if this has been mentioned!!

It's a good sign for the format.

I also noticed in my local HMV, they now have a larger section for Blu Ray (on top) than HD DVD ((on the bottom)).

Hello,
My g/f is a store manager at blockbuster here in the UK, I can vouch for this deal that took place.

Basically sony said they could only rent BD movies for the first 6 months of ps3 release, and so sony would give them more ps3's for pre-order.

Note this will only be the case for the first 6 months.

On another note, that my g/f was telling me..

You know how originally there was a divider between the movie release companies on who who only release HD movies or only BD movies, well all excpet one of the companys have now said they would release both BD and HD formats. Universal being the one company who will only release BD's..

well.. - the boss of universal was talking to the boss of blockbuster, he said that universal were bound to a contract with sony to only release bluray, however the moment that they identify that they are losing any money on it, they will forfeit the contract and revert to releasing hd-dvd's.
