Hey, I paused. The first time I heard of Perry, it was a commercial for one of his plays, from the look of it. I thought to myself "Damn, that looks really stupid. It was from the series where he plays the big fat lady. I tell ya, that never gets old between him, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy...

Tyler Perry, 37, is building a maverick media company by translating “urban theater”— the often melodramatic, revival-style stage plays that tour the country catering to black audiences—into mainstream movies and television shows. It's a niche he has come to dominate so thoroughly that he is able to do things in Hollywood that most others—especially newcomers—simply can't. In September, Perry opened Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, one of the first movie studios in this country owned by an African American. He made his first two films—2005's Diary of a Mad Black Woman and 2006's Madea's Family Reunion —with Lions Gate Entertainment for a total of just $11 million. They both opened at No. 1, and together they grossed over $110 million. Since 1998 his 11 touring stage plays have brought in over $150 million. And DVDs of the movies and plays have sold more than 11 million copies . “ I'll always serve the niche ,” Perry says, “ because they are me. They held me up and walked me through and brought me to this point. But with each film, each play, we're trying to pull it a little higher, and we'll just keep stretching and see how far they're willing to go .”

that still doesnt mean he's talented, you would not believe how many morons buy into his crap. He exploits his characters as nothing more than Jesus preaching stereotypes.

Isn't it amazing how much bland, flaccid entertainment is devoured by bland personality challenged people. Just look at the success of the romantic comedy.

the difference is murphy and lawrence started that 10-20 years ago, he's just cashing in on an old concept and throwing in a bunch of one-dimensional characters.

Or Jerry Bruckheimer films. Michael Bay could be said of making bland movies, because they are all the same. Because something blows up doesn't mean it is exciting.

That is pretty preachy there. I find hard to insult other people's tastes. Good move. You should be proud of yourself.

He is making entertainment for a specific audience that does not include you. The audience that he is making movies, plays, and TV shows for love his work.

Do you think they were the first ones to do that?

1) To the best of my knowledge, Transformers is the first Bay picture I've seen (never cared about Armageddon and can't remember what other films he's done off the top of my head), and that was only because I liked the concept when I was a kid, though I was a bigger fan of GIJoe (that movie better be damn good).

2) It's only considered "preachy" when one doesn't like the sermon.

3) You should hear my thoughts on music and it's concurrence to lifestyle.
