I have been having a small problem for the past month or so. Sometimes, when I boot up my PS3 to watch a Blu-ray, the system would freeze. There wouldn't be the loading icon in the top right corner and I'd have to reset the PS3 via the switch in the back. If I let my PS3 sit for a while and come back, everything would be fine. In the interim, DVDs would play too even if Blu-rays didn't.
Well, now it's happening again but this time permanent. I have tried different HDMI cables, making sure 24p was turned off, trying to watch it with composite cables, using different TVs and nothing seems to work. Once this morning, I got a Warner logo to appear on Terminator 3 but nothing else. I have tried both BD-25 and BD-50 discs. Currently, I am using a Sony SXRD 60A2000 via 1080p plugged directly into the TV. UPDATED I guess I left out the most crucial detail: I'm using a launch 60gb PS3. To clarify, my PS3 loads up the XMB, plays PS3 games, downloadable games, AVI files and PS2 games. It doesn't load Blu-ray or DVD. This makes me think it's something direct with the 'movie software' more than anything else. Would this be something possibly resolved by a reformat (I don't have a hard drive for back up) or is it more regulated to firmware? I've tried browsing and searching for this topic but only seem to find others who don't have the right resolution settings or have 24p issues. There are also instructions online as to how to repair yourself as well as ordering them too. Though thats just what I've read online in this forum not from personal experience.

See, I would think that too but I'm confused on how I could possibly play PS3 games still. And if the blu-ray diode failed, I should be able to play DVDs still, which, from what I've seen of other failures (or at least their posts), can/will still work.

Try restoring it, but it is probably a dead diode.
Usually Sony fixes these for free, but since it is a launch item, it will PROBABLY cost you $150. Good luck either way. And my day was fine, thank you. |

You are correct, I'm not sure how you can still play PS3 disc games..... I have no idea what's wrong here, I'll leave it to those who know more than me!

My PS3 did this last night. I popped in a Blu and it didn't recognize the disk. So I pulled out a different one and still nothing. I put in a regular DVD and it played it fine. PS3 wont' recognize or play any bluray movies. I did not try to play any PS3 games though. I called Sony and they are sending me a box to send back to them. I guess they gotta fix it, she didn't tell me what the problem could be but she did run me through resetting the PS3 to default settings which did nothing.
Anyone else with this issue send it back to Sony? Did they get it fixed for you? Is it still working ok? |

Since the PS3 is still under warranty, I would personally let sony repair it. I had the same issue unable to play blu-ray or games. I live in Seattle, WA and it took a good 13 days to get it back. I basically went to Best BUy and bought another PS3 and returned it after I recieved my old ps3 back.

if its still under warranty hit up http://us.playstation.com/support and do their online service request thing. i was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get my ps3 sent back to them (they pay for shipping a box out to ya, and theres a label to ship it back next day air which is sweet) ![]() |

I've found an external hard drive and am going to back-up the contents. Luckily, my roommate has a PS3 so I shouldn't have to go through withdrawl. THANK YOU, EVERYONE! I appreciate all your responses. |

Try deleting any files under the BD Data utility or putting the last blu-ray in the drive that worked (if you can remember which one). I've had a similiar issue twice but mine seemed to be caused by my ejecting of the disc at an unexpected time. Once I fixed it by putting the disc I had ejected back in and probably started the movie, stopped it and ejected the disc. The 2nd time it happened I just deleted the files under the BD Data utility. The issue you're having could be totally unrelated to the issue I had but the two times it happened to me, I recovered by doing what I listed.
