In my personal opinion every Blu-ray encoded with MPEG-2 was a missed opportunity. Old technology and new should not have met. VC-1 or AVC all the way

What's wrong with Terminator? (Haven't bought it, I barely even watch my DVD) For a low-budget eighties action movie, I suspect any Blu-Ray release is already as good as it could look. (Unless there's horrible quantities of DNR?)
Definitely second 'House of Flying Daggers' (based on reviews) I'd love to own that in a quality blu-ray. (Still got my DVD. No interest in the very marginal upgrade to their first attempt at Blu-Ray) Dark City absolutely needs a serious release. I've no interest in buying a heavily DNRed "High Definition" release. Face/Off could definitely benefit from a serious release (ie. in proper, non-DNRed, 1080p) but I wouldn't bother to upgrade. (Was dumb enough, at the time, to buy the first release not knowing what DNR was (and wondering why the image was so completely devoid of detail)) |

"HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS"
![]() This film really deserves the best treatment on Blu-Ray for the following reasons: 1. The film sets several new standards for production and entertainment values. It is a wild riot of color, music, passion, action, mystery, pure old-fashioned thrills and even dancing. 2. The film showcases Zhang Yimou (the great Chinese director) at his most romantic. He gives us an astonishing combination of spectacle, suspense, martial-arts flash, sublime silliness, anti-gravity action and passionate intensity -- before and after everything else, it's a grand love story. 3. The film is an equivalent of a 12-course feast crammed with unforgettable images and mind-boggling stunts. 4. The film is the most intoxicatingly beautiful martial arts picture I've ever seen. It has this painterly quality; combining bloody reds, sunshine yellows and pale blues in the harmony of a masterpiece. |

In addition to those already mentioned, I say every blu-ray that lacks the extras that are on the DVD or doesn't feature the same cut of the movie as the DVD needs to be redone.
I'm a huge fan of extras, and the lack of bonus features has stopped me from replacing some titles I've got on DVD. |

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
Nearly a 3 hour movie crammed onto a BD25. Highly compressed, no loseless either i believe. |

I'm dying to get Terminator 1 & 2 but not if they look like crap. I hear T3 is good though.
While we are on the subject of Ah-nold, "Total Recall". Just could not discern any difference from the DVD. DEFINATELY "The bi-Polar Express". That was a port over from 15GB HD DVD. What a piece of crap. With the new 3-D version coming this October I'll be a bit more warey before I jump in. 3-D is nice but meaningless at those bit rates. Ugh. ![]() |
