Well, what can I say... my member name probably tells you that I like this movie quite a bit.

As at this point in time it's still unclear if/when Universal will release this title on Blu-ray, I decided to go ahead and import the Japan version from GAGA. As I'm in Europe, I can confirm the release is indeed region free.

What this BD50 disc doesn't have are supplements (other than 3 trailers and cast/crew listings) or english subs. What it does have is a lossless english 5.1 Dolby TrueHD track and a maxed out AVC transfer with a bitrate that hovers around the 40 Mbps mark for the whole 107 minutes of the movie! A "Superbit" Blu-ray release, then.

As I watched this picture, it was crystal clear (pun intended) to me that this is what Blu-ray, for me, is all about: a great movie with a state of the art transfer. No hours of extras biting away at the PQ and/or AQ, no gimmicky BD Live content, just the movie done as good as possible. And, in it's own way, a different kind of HD demo disc: no booming bass, no spectacular action, no beautiful explosions; but a flawless transfer that simply gets out of the way and immerses you in the picture.

This is the rarest of movies: intelligent, mind-bending even, but also very emotional and with a lot of heart. Fantastic main performances from Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey with heartbreaking support from Kirsten Dunst. Extremely innovative direction from Michel Gondry. And the best work from writer Charlie Kaufman, who was the only one of the above who wasn't robbed at the 2005 Academy Awards (as he actually won for Best Original Screenplay).

If you have never seen this movie, the japanese Blu-ray from GAGA is your deluxe ticket for a wild, emotional ride. If you do know and love Eternal Sunshine, this is the best version you could possibly get.

I really enjoyed this film and am looking forward to it on BD, that and The Science of Sleep.

I used yesasia as well to get a bridge too far. There very quick considering it's from the far east.

Are you sure there ain't English subs ? Though GAGA is not accustomed to release titles with English Subs this one was said to have English subs. Can you please check again and confirm ?

Please be informed GAGA messed up with few Blu-rays by presenting in wrong aspect ratio but luckily they didn't harm this title.

I'll check again, but I'm pretty sure there are no english subs. It was a little strange when I checked the first time because there was one (supposed) sub track where no subs at all appeared... I'll report later.

Phew, what a steep price for the film. Is this the highest bitrate film on BD? I haven't seen others use the 40mbps.
