Default The Panasonic 58PZ800U is the perfect tv

Seriously, this tv is just breathtakingly good. This is coming from a guy with 2 kuros, and I can unequivocally say that this tv can hang with the best. I was looking to upgrade my 5010 to a 6020, and by gosh I took a gander at the 58PZ800U panny, and I just can't see any problems there, and at its pricepoint (cheaper than a 5020!!) I can't see why this won't fly off the shelf. I'm actually second guessing if the 6020 is worth a thousands more than the panny, because quite frankly, I saw almost no difference in picture quality and black levels. They were next to each other in a darkened room, both had blu-ray sources.

That is very good to hear - I'll be keeping my eye on this one for sure.

At 2" shy of a 60" HDTV for what I'm sure will be under three grand at some point, it's one to watch.

I thought about waiting for this tv but decided 58" was too big for my living room so I went with the 50". Still an amazing tv.

AGREED!!!

I just purchased the Panasonic 58P750U and absolutely love it! I went bacck and forth between this and a Kuro but like you, just couldn't see much of a difference. I looked and looked for a reason to spend the extra cash and just could find one. I tried to convince myself to go with the Kuro, spend the money, I told myself, you want the best right?

I am very happy that I trusted my better jugement and stuck with the Panasonic, it definately holds it's own with the best plasmas on the market and at a much better price!!

I just hung 6 of the 42 and 2 of the new 50 "11 series"
when I fired them off... the remarks were just "WOW"!!
these are the professional displays, but the panels will be in the next generation of consumer stuff

24p has a bad FLICKER on the 800U..I have it and PANASONIC is a where of the defect..other than that its great. THX MODE rocks..oh yeah..100 hours Break In..Cant play any games on it and if u watch 4:3 mode do the strech with your remote. Image retention will occar

That is the reason Pioneer still beats it. Panny is getting closer though.

Me too. However I would rather by an older generation Pio than a new Panny with flicker, if they were close in price. I bought my 8g Pio Elite when the 9g's came out and got it cheap.

Damn dude, that is a NICE PRICE.
$2,899 for a 58" 1080p THX plasma.
Schwing!

Incidentally, I compared the -800 series in 60Hz and 24Hz mode recently at Panasonic and found the mildest flicker in scenes like a brightly lit sky, but I didn't find it to be any different than the flicker I notice at the cinema, which is what it's supposed to mimic in the first place.

I still think they should have three options.

48Hz - filmic
60Hz
72Hz - smooth

Play games on my pz700u all the time. Washes right out. No burn in, just a little ghosting.

No bad flicker here with a 42" 800U set w/ 24p enabled.
