Hi all,
Does anyone have a full size popcorn machine in their home theater? I found one I want to get and I almost have the wife sold on the idea. What do you have and how do you like, how much was it, where did you get it from etc? Thanks for your input. ![]() |

Sams only had the red popcorn machine, so I searched online and found a black one from Nostalgia Electrics with free shipping and a cost around 200 bucks. Its simple to use and I love having it in my theater. Having fresh buttered popcorn on tap is choice for any home theater fan!

That would be a pretty cool feature to put into the room, I would love it but would never have space for it.

I actually was going to get a mini one (I don't have THAT much room for a giant one... well I am sure I do, but it'd end up messing with the sound by blocking a speaker or some other issue) but instead I got this nice little hot air popper. It works very well and tastes soooo much better than the popcorn you buy in a bag. It also beats the crap out of the movie theater popcorn I've had lately. That stuff was the dryest, stalest, hardest, nastiest crap I've ever had.

the only thing you guys need to worry about is the smell... over the summer i helped out a buddy at his job for a few weeks and it was like blow up rides and pop corn and cotton candy machines... first of all they're a ***** to clean and second, i'll never forget we set one up in a school classroom for a end of the year party and the smell was terrible... popcorn and butter and it just seeped into everything... imagine in an enclosed space with i.e. carpet floors, sofas, linens, pillows ur walls'll get greasy... not to mention what it'll do to ur screen...

I used to work at a movie theatre and the smell seeps into your clothes, fast. I would come home and still smell the popcorn and oil. But it is delicious.
Cleaning it is ok, just turn on the kettle heat and the agitator and boil some water in it with some kettle cleaner, you could probably find it online. Clean the rest of it with simple household cleaners and you'll be fine. Just do it after every use or the oil and salt will harden and then it is a real pain to clean. The oil will be confined to the machine as long as the kettle lid is flush with the kettle, otherwise the oil will splatter. The main thing, like Pedigree said, is the smell. That would be the only reason I wouldn't put one in my home. |

That's a lot of good stuff to think about. The one I was thinking about getting was a 4 ounce, which makes enough for about 4 people at a time, so I wouldn't be leaving popcorn in it for extended periods of time. I would be concerned with the whole place smelling of popcorn all the time.
Anyone have any good links for hot air poppers? |

The best "simulation" of movie theater popcorn, IMHO, is an oil popper from West Bend called the StirCrazy. It's relatively cheap--about $35 at Target or Amazon--and does a fantastic job, especially if you use dedicated, butter-flavored popping oil. But you can also use it to get really gourmet, like using olive oil and then topping your corn with pepper and sea salt, etc. The design is pretty ingenious, too. My family and I LOVE us some popcorn, so I'm always open to suggestions on what gives the best experience. I used to really like JiffyPop, but it is hard to find, a pain to make, and doesn't work on glass-top stoves. ![]() |
