Well,
Just pulled the trigger on this baby for $2499.99 @ my local Tweeter. ![]() ![]() I will be picking it up tomorrow. ![]() I have only read about the 800U with its THX mode but the 850U don't have that. ![]() Anyone have this unit? What about the settings and how do you like it? |

It is the same TV as the 800u, plus it adds an ethernet port to stream data like weather, traffic, etc. It doesnt comply with THX because it adds extra video processing that can't be turned off, therefore no THX mode, meaning if you want it to achieve a more "realistic" picture you need to have it professionally calibrated. The 800u has a THX setting which sets it to near ISF calibration settings. The settings out of the box will look good, but be too punchy and too much contrast. That is normal for all TV's these days though, but the most realistic picture will need to get ISF calibration

Wow!
![]() I guess this is due to the contrast ratio. Anyone have any suggested settings for the 850U to maximize for blu-ray? Last edited by al210; 08-30-2008 at 08:16 PM. |

It may or may not help, but it certainly would not hurt. I downloaded the images to my PS3 and looped them for ~200 hours. Never had any burn-in or IR on my other 2 plasmas, but wanted a bit more piece of mind with my latest 58" set. So far, no problems and my son games CONSTANTLY.

Correct. But the reason for using it is to equally wear the phosphors during the "critical" period up to 100-200 hours where some claim plasmas are most succeptable to burn-in from static images or watching content with horizontal/vertical bars. Not sure what scientific research has been done to show this, but I figured it didn't hurt me any "breaking the set in".

I have been watching all types of programs for 3 days now on my new 850U.
Logos, blackbars, sports tickers etc. I have yet to see any IR of any kind. |
