Why is true lies not on bd?

OK, all these anniversary BDs and old movies that still look like crap, why can we not get True Lies on BD? It has been 22 years and James Cameron needs to work on this. It will sell a ton! Anyone hear of this movie in the works for Blu-ray?

The gist of things is that the studio's sitting on it for some unknown reason and the director's busy. There could be issues regarding the movie's political sensitivity in today's climate. It could be concerns over who has the final say over the Blu-Ray release, if it's going through remastering or gathering more extras, or if it's waiting on something else. If Cameron is holding it up, it's probably because of The Abyss (coming out soon, finally) and all those Avatar sequels.

I don't think anybody knows for sure though.

If 20th Century Fox still has the distribution rights they could remaster and release this film regardless if James Cameron wants to participate.

And do you think 20th Century Fox would even think about doing this since James Cameron has a Billion dollar franchise with Fox being the distributor for Avatar 1-5? Fox will only do what Cameron wants to do,notice the long delays for Avatar 2,Fox will give him all the time he wants,they already know the movie is going to be the biggest of all time and Cameron has total control over his movies and the studio.

I honestly have no idea. Either James Cameron is not proud of this and The Abyss which does not have a proper release yet either or he just doesn't care for some reason. I'm baffled. Frankly he needs to quit with Avatar which I felt was extremely overrated and get to work on these instead and get back into the action genre again because he is desperately needed there.

The special features are done, the remaster is done, the audio is ready.

It is all on Cameron and Cameron only confirmed he approved The Abyss for 2017. I believe Van Ling even confirmed the hold up is Cameron himself.

And no, a studio can't just release something if the contracts stipulate talent approval. That's why Scrooged's supplementary package is sitting in a vault right now.

That's not really true. If Fox sees potential to make money, and they own the film outright, they will do it. It could be a clause in his contract that he gets final say on home video releases, or Lightstorm owns part of the film thus giving him control. But he signed off on a master years ago and has said as much at screenings that it's Fox holding up the release, not him. Extras were made for True Lies over 2 years ago. Right now, it's probably because it's getting re-done for 4K to take advantage of that, so any release of that and the Abyss will include both 4K and 1080 versions.

Regarding holdups on the The Abyss, I once heard somewhere that Fox and Cameron want to only make one, uncut BD release that can be sold worldwide, but then they have issues with the UK release which would be cut by the BBFC (for animal cruelty) and Fox probably doesn't feel like dumping money into a separate pressing (like with their UK release of Conan The Barbarian) for an "old movie" which would cut into profits. I find some of that BS, but with the way the physical media state is I wouldn't be surprised with the corners they cut for profits.

Of course it's the politically correct thing to say for Cameron, it's not me it's Fox. No movement with The Abyss as of now to. It's probably a little of both holding up these releases, Cameron and Fox. They probably want to get these releases right.

Cameron has said he literally only makes movies so he can afford to do his true love , deep sea stuff.

It's either Fox or Cameron. This should have been out on Blu-ray back in 2008 with some of the early Fox launch titles.

On one hand, I'm glad that it wasn't released in 2010 because a lot of blu-rays at that time look like crap. 2018 is the right time to finally release this film.
