Does anyone know anything about memory cards for cameras? - Blu-ray Forum

I want to upgrade to a 16gb card. Are they all the same or are they differen?. I want to be able to do video as well as pictures.

Unless you are using a high performance digital SLR like a Canon Rebel Xti/Xsi or a Nikon etc, I would say they are all about the same, all old the same amount depending on the gb size you buy and all do pretty much the same thing speed wise (you can pay more for faster cards but you dont have to). I go with whatever brand is cheapest most of the time but also check reviews on Amazon and Newegg to see what other people have to say before making a final purchase. Also shop around for the best deal since some places way overcharge you.

you'll be able to do both audio/video if your camera supports it no matter what card you pick up. I know the transfer speeds are one of the differences. I picked mine up at Costco and no complaints

ya buying from ebay is a different story... i've heard some horror stories with people getting bunk memory cards and them not working with the hardware so be careful.

I've never heard of that brand

Make sure your camera can handle 16G. My previous camera couldn't handle 4Gb, so I had to fall back to 2GB after buying one.

Sounds like someone is trying to take advantage of the uneducated consumer. Don't fall for it.

Make sure you know the type of memory card that your camera calls for - and if it has any capacity limitations.

Also, be sure to watch the sales ads. Normally you can get a really good deal on SD memory cards.

If you can wait a few days or if you have Prime check amazon over Best Buy they rip you off alot of memory cards, Newegg always has good deals also.

Also check WalMart they have some good prices on Memory Cards they usually carry ScanDisk which are pretty good.

If you go 16GB I suggest checking adorama.com and bhphotovideo.com and stick wih Lexar or Sandisk. As others have already said, the model camera may or may not be able to go to 16GB. What model are you using?

When looking at the card speeds, don't forget they will affect download times as well as write speeds. I use all 133x or 300x cards now in my DSLR, because I can shoot 5fps in them, and I can get max download speeds with the right readers.

I have the Canon G9. I talked to Best Buy today and she said there is no difference in brands. It all has to do with the speed of the card. Somehow I think she had no clue what she was taliking about. I'm going to call Wolf or Ritz tomorrow and see what they say.

Nice camera and should handle the 16GB SDHC cards with no issues. I'd stick with a Sandisk Extreme III or IV, or Lexar 133x or 300x. Check teh Lexar homepage. They were just doing great rebates.

Checking out Lexar, they only seem to go up to 8GB.

I found this 32GB Sandisk that will work but it seems like 15 megabites a sec is slow.
