Question HELP..$2,500 Budget...What Shall i buy?

Here is the deal. My friend from work is looking for a new HDTV. He is somewhat new to the market. He has a budget for $2500 and is leaning towards an LCD because of the glare of plasma's. I let him know that the glare is not a huge problem anymore. He also asked about the refresh rate, and how important that is. Currently the top of the line is 120Hz. Plasma's do have a refresh rate (or do they?). I myself am not so knowledge and am still learning. He would llike to get a 50inch if possible. I let him know that my this site is a good source of info and suggestions.

The question becomes: What is the best TV i can get (LCD or Plasma) or this price.

Thanks again for the help!

Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800U

He can pick this up at any local store for 2500 or get it cheaper from an online realtor.

This plasma has a refresh rate of 72hz enabling 24p playback which is equivalent to 120hz in that respect. Glare should only be an issue if the room where the television is being placed has large windows without any covering and gets direct sunlight during the times that your friend typically watches television. At all other times this picture quality should exceed that of lcd's IMO.

I agree LCDs have less glare. Look at the Sony KDL-52w4100 around that sort of price.

The Samsung LCD models 650, 750, and 850 have more glare then the Panasonic Plasma. Unless you go with the 630, 730, or 830 that has 20,000 less contrast but has a anti glare screen. Go with the Panasonic Plasma and you will be happy

The TH-50PZ800U actually supports 48Hz, not 72Hz, but that's still true 24fps reproduction.

It's $1,997 shipped from Vanns.

QFT, also keep in mind that because of the 48hz method, some people report they can see flickering and thus the mode is unusable (read: unwatchable).

Also, this is the plasma I intend to purchase at the end of the month.
