I have a couple of questions if someone could answer them for me I would really appreciate it. I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of my system.

1. What should the crossover be set at?

2. what do i set the ohms at 6 or 8 (only two options)

3. what does phase do?? where should I set it??

4. also on the ps3 i only have a 5.1 set-up but do i still check the 7.1 options or just leave them off.

5. what do i put my receiver on when watching a movie with true hd sound?? do i put it on 7 channel surround or straight enhanced or surround decoder??

when i played metal gear solid 4 PCM automatically came up and it sounded awesome, is this correct. Thanks guys, sorry for such a long post

Set your speakers to 8 ohms.

Have you set up the mic(YPAO), Go through the directions in let the mic set your levels. It will also set your crossover for your speakers. There's a good chance that it will also set some of your speakers to large.i HAVE A FUNNING FELLING IT WILL SET YOUR CROSSOVER TO 90HRZ.if IT DOES MAY I SUGGEST 80HZ-60HZ.(PLAY WITH THIS)Sorry about the capitals.

After the mic has done it's job .I suggest to go back in to your set up and make them small again.
USE THE MIC

For the crossover, you can usually set it up to something like ~5 Hz above above the lowest value in the ±3 dB frequency response...
If you have separate crossover points for your speakers, you could try:
c-500 fronts - 40 Hz
c-100 surrounds - 60Hz
c-c-100 center channel - 55 Hz

I think your receiver has only one crossover point for all the speakers in increments of 10 Hz, so in that case I would set it to 60 Hz (The most important part is to set it above the lowest limit of the frequency response, so setting it to 80 Hz would be fine also. Try and see what sounds the best for you... Just remember that the sub is designed to handle bass duty, so it should do a better job at outputting bass than your other speakers).

Set the center and surrounds to small (all bass below 60 Hz will be output to the sub).

For the fronts, try both small and large and see what you like most. If you set it to large the crossover setting won't affect the Fronts. The negative impact if you set the fronts to large is that you could have some cancellation or reinforcement with the sub.

For the LFE/Bass out setting, select "SWFR".

8 Ohm (since all your speakers are 8 ohm, also this setting only limits the power of the receiver so you don't overload it.

Check the Calibrating your audio with an SPL meter thread

The YPAO should also be able to help you with this.

I don't think it really matters, I would leave it the 7.1 options checked. In your receiver the missing speakers will be set to "none" anyway.

Quickly, I would say the one that sounds the best but perhaps some Yamaha users could help you out... (I have a Yamaha in my other setup but it's an "old" one)

Buy an SPL meter and use it to set your speaker levels... Look at the guide "Calibrating Your Audio With an SPL Meter".

Also if they can't find the mic ask them to lend one to you from another box. Or find a friend close to you with a similar mic (be sure to use an omnidirectionnal mic though)

Oh and enjoy your system!

If it's like the 863, the receiver will do the work for you. TrueHD will light up and it will say STRAIGHT on the receiver with no option to change it to anything else.
