You've got alot of options available - depending on the outputs your laptop already has, you can use a 3.5mm to RCA cable out of the headphone/line out jack, your laptop may already be capable of 5.1 out (i didn't look up the specs), or you can buy a number of usb/pcmcia/express card sound cards - these all add a number of options that can include stereo out, optical out, 5.1 out, etc...
good luck! ![]() |

I use toslink from my MacBook Pro to my Onkyo TX-SR805.
![]() ![]() Not sure whether or not your MacBook does the same thing. But, this is the cable I bought. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...t=1#largeimage |

The first choice Mini-TOSLINK to TOSLINK will give you a digital signal. The second choice 3.5mm stereo jack to rca will give you an analog signal. Both will go in the same connector on your Macbook. My preferred choice will be the digital connection... |

The jack input on the macbook is a combination electric/optical 3.5 mm TRS jack. The jack allows the standard 3.5 mm TRS connector (for electrical, analog signals) ![]() And also the mini-Toslink connector (for optical, digital signals), which is also 3.5 mm ![]() (sorry the picture if of a cable with a mini-Toslink on one end a standard Toslink on the other end) Basically, this is to allow both connectors on the same jack... By the way you can get 5.1 sound with the optical connector (same as the capabilities as the normal Toslink). Last edited by Johk; 10-17-2008 at 08:58 PM. |
