Default Problem at my local Movie Stop?

Hi all,
I have a Movie Stop in my area which I buy from occasionally. Here is the problem. I went in yesterday to buy Forbidden Kingdom on Blu and it was in one of those clear lock boxes. No problem. I was going to grab a copy of the Disney CGI movie the Wild. Case said new. I brought it to the counter, the girl goes in the back and brings out the disc to put in the case. I told her I wanted a new one on Blu, she says it is new, that they open them to prevent theft. I said then I don't want it because it's not new. I go grab a copy of Ant Bully. Same thing. Now she is starting to argue with me telling me that they have authorization to open them. I tell her if it's opened it's no longer new. I said if I brought back a movie opened for a trade they wouldn't give me the new price, they would give me the used price. I also told her that they are the only place that does that.
I'm thinking about writing to their corporate office about this.
has anyone else ran into this problem? Also I do buy the occasional used Blu since it says used and is a reduced price, but am not willing to buy what they call new when it has been opened already.
Does anyone else see a problem with this practice?

Dude, it's Moviestop. They're Gamestop, only for movies. They open EVERYTHING that's out on the floor and hold it in the back, and then charge you for new titles.

I wouldn't buy from them at all, personally.

Yes, there is a thread all about this. Probably hard to find, I'll check for it in a minute. My Moviestop location has been doing that same thing, I stopped going there months ago.

Edit - Here's the old thread.

At my local store, even the employees think it's terrible policy, but their hands are tied apparently. I've sent letters to their corporate office and called some random corporate number I was given a few times over this very issue. I'll see if I can come up with the address and phone number again. Make sure you tell them they've lost your business on both new AND used movies now with this policy.

For what it's worth (and just because I'm a vengeful bastard), I launched a complain with my local BBB over this. It was closed quickly with a note that this was beyond their scope.

Thanks for all the replies. Yeah I think I will stop buying from them alltogether. It's not worth the aggravation. If you come up with the corporate info I will send them an email or a letter telling them that they've lost my business, because what they do, Gamestop included is ludicrous.
It amazes me what people will put up with.
Can you imagine if you bought a loaf of bread but the bag was empty, and you had to go to the checkout and they put the bread in the bag for you. Nobody would stand for that. The hell with Game and Movie stop. I'm done with them.

You can find that corporate info in an old thread, too, I think:

Edit - found it, their corporate number is (770)590-1765.

Ah, but it gets worse! I have a friend that works at Gamestop. (We don't have Moviestops around here, so I'm not sure but I'd guess the practice was the same). He says he is allowed to "check out" new games and take them home and play them so that he can be knowledgeable about new games to customers. While I agree with the premise, guess what ends up happening?! Your "new game" (or in this case, movie) gets taken home and used! How can they possibly still sell it as "new"?!

They may only be doing this with used games/movies in other stores, but at the one he worked at, you just checked out a game- they didn't care if it was new or used.

Well see, there is no way to tell if you new movie or game is new, which sucks. I'm definitely done with them.

They outright told me long ago they take new BDs home, watch them, then sell them as new again at my local Moviestop.

Gamestop does the same thing, they open games and sell them as new. I wanted a tiger 08 games last xmas as a gift and they tried selling me that open one as new, I said no thanks as well as its now used and thats kinda lame to give a "open" item as a gift.

All the gamestops by me have only the shelved copies opened. They still have games wrapped behind the counter. They don't sell many movies there though.

I think now that I may file a complaint with my local better Business Bureau. I know it may not have an effect but there's a chance it will. Either way, I have nothing to lose.

This happened with me also. I refused to pay "new" price for a movie that was open! They told me that they only do that with blu-rays!
WTF!!

Well I called the number that was posted. They gave me the number to the district manager. I called and left a message on his voice mail. He called me right back and said the reason they do that is to cut down on theft. I told him that was the wrong solution and that I wouldn't by open Blurays that were called new. he didn't seem to care. Now I am really done with them.

I guess the manager at my store is clueless. It's been about a 1 1/2 months or so since I've been in there, but they didn't do it. I might swing by this weekend and give it a look. I agree though, if it's open it's used as far as I'm concerned.

I experienced the same problem when I was going to purchase a "new" copy of Reign of Fire.

I almost shit and fell back in it when the associate pried open the side of the case and forced the disc back in and then attempted to charge me $29.99.

I'll never buy a "new" movie from MovieStop again, because hey, they've been opened and the discs have been removed, ergo, they are NOT new.

Douchebags.

Why even go to them? Buy at Best Buy, Circuit City, deepdiscount.com, and amazon.com

My store is usually $2-$4 cheaper than BB and CC, plus they have decent prices on used movies and have sales a lot more often than either of them. But I have been using Amazon almost exclusively for a while now.
