I actually found Shadow Chronicles to be a good bit of fun. Robotech was what got me into anime back in the mid 80's. But I'm not a hardcore weird fanatic about Robotech. There's an HD vesrion of the film as well, something I confirmed back when it was released.

The animation doesn't seem to be that good though
It looks more like a typical anime TV show than a well-budgeted movie or OVA that the series deserves

It's such a shame that in my opinion, the best work so far in the series in terms of animation and story is still macross do you remember love

hell, same thing goes for the Gundam series or any other Japanese household scifi anime
like their progresses just seem to stop in early 90s

I actually prefer Macross Plus (OVA version). But yeah, it would be nigh-impossible to top Do You Remember Love, so I can see why people wouldn't want to try and just make something that will sell DVDs. A lot of people also seem to like Frontier, but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

Macross Plus felt like a pre-quel to Do you remember Love. But I would love to see Do you remember Love on BD.

I'll simply add +1.

Friend of mine here at work bought it and let me borrow it. Sound is decent (some lossles options), the colors really pop, but the animation isn't that much to look at. It seems like they spent more time figuring out ways to get big-boobed anime girls in instead of how to properly draw the mechs. They used CGI on the mechs and didn't really flesh it out. It looks poor and really sticks out against the hand-drawn animation.

The story overall I felt was pretty weak. If you're an old Robotech fan (like I was) I'd recommend renting this, or going to the movie showing if you're able. I would recommend against buying it until you see it.
