Arrow Benicio del Toro as CHE: El argentino

Set to be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Stephen Soderbergh's Che will once again attempt to find distribution either as a four hour complete film or in its two parts (The Argentine and Guerilla). If the film is able to find distribution it may be able to find its way into enough theaters this year to qualify for the 2008 awards season, but it is going to be a close call.

Benicio del Toro stands to potentially gain a Best Actor nomination for his portrayal of Argentine revolutionary Ernesto 'Che' Guevara as he travels to New York City to address the United Nations and director/co-writer Steven Soderbergh gains to add a few noms to his belt as well.

I don't know why, but this immediately reminds me of the "Medellin" movie from Entourage.

I hope Soderbergh gets a distributor for the full version. If Kevin Costner can do it...

Good grief, just what we need, another reason for even more boneheaded college kids to walk around wearing Che Guavara tee-shirts.

That's what I used to say, but then I remembered that a company made those shirts. A company making money in a free enterprise, capitalistic society. The best part is, many that wear the shirts are completely oblivious to that.

Edit: True Story...

I was working an internship during my college career with a local radio station when one of my fellow interns saw a boy about our age wearing the famous red shirt with the black design of Che's face. The intern said, "That's an awesome shirt, I want one."
I knew exactly who Che was and about the hoopla that surrounds his legacy. Anyway, I asked "Who was that on his shirt?"
He replied, "It's that one guy. Che. He was really cool."
I asked, "Who was Che?"
No exaggeration whatsoever, he replied, "He was just that one guy who did a lot of stuff for a lot of people."

I am not trying to get political with this post by the way, I just thought this anecdote was worth noting.

Man many that wear that shirt are completely oblivious to everything about Che other than the fact that it makes their parents mad and makes them feel like cool nonconformists for flipping a clumsy bird at capitalism.

True, and yet they are being capitalists themselves, it's great. It will be interesting to see how this movie plays out, but we all know Hollywood.

People have no idea who Che Guevara really was...better not like my political views get in the fun, since this is a tech/movie forum.

A few months ago I saw a trailer for the Cannes films festival if I remember correctly. Then I forgot about it and now that this thread reminds me of it I shall see it when it comes out over here.

I'm still wondering if they are going to release this as one 4 hour movie or in two parts.
