Default Blockbuster and others in the US

I live in Denmark, Europe. On danish forums there has been some discussions about wether Blockbuster chooses HD-DVD or Blu-ray.

What about in the US, you're ahead of us in the general high def. "evolution". What about the rental area??

Well her in the USA blockbuster seems like an even amount of blu-ray and hd dvd but it only seems like 1 of every 3 stores has them or at least in my area.

My local one has the same amount of BD's and HD-DVD's and the selection sucks for both. I'd say about 20-30 titles of each.

I like my blockbuster online. they have both blu-ray and hd dvd, plus you can trade them into the store for free in store rentals

Even amount of both at all the rental stores, however in the sales departments is where Blu-ray has the big edge. Every Best Buy I've been too has the Sony and Samsung Blu-ray's on dsiplay but Ive never seen a HD-DVD on display anywhere. And most of the specialty Audio Visual stores carry Sony products I have seen many that carry anything Toshiba.

Usually with how the bestbuy are set up the hd-dvd is set up on a toshiba plasma in the back corner ,but it doesn`t look as nice as BD anyway so maybe bestbuy knows something about BD ???

And with the new units coming out now you will prob see a LG unit on an endcap soon enough displaying BD/HD-DVD capability (though the reviews haven`t been hot )

My neighborhood Bestbuy has 2 BD players on endcaps, both displaying on 42" Bravia screens using HDMI. I have always seen people gawking and commenting favorably on PQ! I have to admit I've been guilty of the same. Not that I went looking for one, but the absence of the HD-DVD is very conspicuous. As far as availability of titles, BD seems to have more of those that I am likely to purchase. Same goes with the Super Wal-Mart. Also, I think that there are more BD titles in Wal-Mart.

Getting back to the OP question: I get most of my BD from Netflix. Apart from wait times (presumably because they don't have as many copies), I have not had many problems with getting released titles on the queue. I assume that is the same story with HD-DVD. Have not tried Blockbuster yet.

Hope the above is at least of some use to OP.

Rup.
