Default The Force Unleashed

Quote:
Star Wars The Force Unleashed, LucasArts' first current-gen adventure in the post - Hayden Christensen saga, has been slowly lifting its curtain over the past few months as we've gotten word on a release date and more. The Wii version's Duel Mode has been getting its fair shar of press lately, and the PSP/DS's wi-fi play is sure to notice soon; but the multiplayer component for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions (which was confirmed nearly a year ago), has been on media blackout.
If what a LucasArt's PR rep is saying is true, there's a reason why: it doesn't exist. Speaking to Total Video Games, Adam Khan (great Jedi name, by the way), senior PR manager for LucasArts said that due to the fact that the Wii and handheld versions of The Force Unleashed have some sort of head-to-head offerings, the Euphoria-based Jedi experience on the HD consoles will be missing out.

To be specific, there's no multiplayer in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, because there is on the Wii, PSP, and DS. As far as specific reasons are concerned, we don't really like to get into the reasons why we don't do things because I don't think there's really a satisfactory answer that people would really be happy with. So, there isn't multiplayer and that's kind of how it is...

I'm sorry...WHAT? Does that make sense to anyone else? There's no multiplayer on PS3/360 because it exists on the other platforms? That might sound ridiculously stupid to some, and that's because it truly is. I can understand there not being an online component to the game if it's because of the technology (the game uses a combination of Euphoria, Digital Molecular Matter and Havok), but because it just simply wasn't developed out right...even though it's already been announced? Let's hope that this was some misunderstood statement, and clarification arrives soon, or I sense that quite a few sales for The Force Unleashed were just lost. Either that, or LucasArts is really hoping people will buy this game twice.

This really sucks. I really enjoyed the mp aspect of the jedi knight series. Enjoyed it more than the battlefront games!

Translation of the guy's explanation:

"We want people who own two consoles (a lot of console owners) to buy 2 x "Force Unleashed" because the versions will be intentionally crippled, but to have a HD experience you'll have to buy a PS3 or 360 one..."

Despicable to say the least ...

Star Wars games have NEVER been developed fully, or done right.. steps are skipped simply becuase it is Star Wars and will sell anyways..

this coming from a Big Star Wars fan, but man if they could pull their heads out of their asses and make a complete Star Wars game that could stand on its own and than add the Star Wars world into it.. the game would be a true blockbuster.. simply put though it has not happened.. and I do not see it happening anytime soon.. for whatever reason they develop Star Wars games about 70% functionality of other games of the same genre..

They want you to buy multiple copies of the same game for different systems. I will only buy the PS3 version. No multiplayer isn't that big of a deal to me.

I think that I'll purchase the Wii version and rent the PS3 version.

I would love to have another spacebattle game, bring on another X-Wing vs Tie Fighter.

As far as what the OP quoted, it sounds like Lucas wants us to buy multiple copies. I was hoping for online Co-op but I guess I'll live without. My friend is a big Star Wars fan so I was going to buy it on release date that way I can play online with with him. Now there's no real reason too, I'll pick it up later on or just put in on my Christmas list.

Like many cross-console games, they wanted each version to have some exclusive content. I think the PS2 version has some extra levels, and the Wii/PSP versions are getting some multiplayer (I can't remember if it's different multiplayer modes or not).

Same sorta thing seems to be happening with Ghostbusters. From what I've heard, the Wii version offers co-op and the 360/PS3 versions don't

I understand the logic to a degree, but it does kinda suck.

Cant really agree with this but there are some SW games that aren't all that great.

games I feel make the cut:
Dark Forces
Mysteries of the Sith
Jedi Knight
Jedi Academy
Battlefront 1 and 2
Empire at War (rtd)
Knights of the old republic 1 and 2
Lego (all of them)
Starfighter
Jedi Starfighter
Rouge Squadron (all of them)
Xwing
Tie Fighter
Shadows of the Empire

Games I never played
Galaxies
Republic Commando

Games I wish I never played
Star Wars Racer
Battle for Naboo
Revenge of the Sith
Rebel Assault 1 and 2

ok so this is my first post on this site :] I've been a long time lurker though.

I think we need a first person star wars game. Has anyone seen trailers for the game mirror's edge? something like that concerning the star wars universe would be amazing

The 360 version will have online co-op, so I'm sure PS3 will as well.

Honestly I get the biggest feeling that there is no online component on the next-gen systems because they're spending all their time getting physics engines working together properly.

The PS2/PSP/Wii/DS versions are literally an entirely other game based on the same basic concepts, and since none of those has the horsepower to run those engines, they had a lot of extra time on their hands

Seems a petty poor excuse to me, but I'm not that bothered about multiplayer on this title. I've got a PSP and a Wii but I'll be getting it on PS3 (assuming it doesn't suck balls).

Are you sure about the 360 online co op? I don't recall hearing that at all.

I watched a developers commentary on the game and they said they were working on making the ps2 version as close as possible to the ps3. They need to use tricks and not rely on the engines, so that may take extra time on the development end for that.

Well if the PS3 version will have Co-Op then I'll be down with getting that version and just renting the Wii one and trying out the duels.

No, Ghostbusters will not have online Co-Op.

Unfortunately, in order to keep authenticity of the Ghostbusters' "look and feel," Terminal Reality will be clipping out online cooperative mode for the campaign of the game. They have multiplayer planned to kick off out-of-the-box, but it's limited to either a competitive, ghoul catching romp, or a separate section for cooperative busting action against waves of ghosts. Terminal Reality studio director John O'Keefe said:

"We want you to feel like you’re a Ghostbuster, and so co-op with your friends playing the other Ghostbusters we wouldn’t be able to control that comedic timing and delivery of lines. Even though co-op would be an interesting aspect we made a conscious decision because we wanted to capture the Ghostbusters experience, but there is an online component of the game that is cooperative but it’s nothing to do with the story."
