Default Newbie, Buying my first blu-ray player.

Hey

I am new to all this as per post, and need some help.

I have up to £300.00 to spend on a player, now I was looking at the PS3 obviously, and some other brands.

My requirments if possible are:

Would like it to have a USB for movie files, and or also a SD card reader for the same thing.

I dont know if the PS3 does all this, or any other player.

The only thing is, I wont be gaming, so the PS3 will be soley for the player, But I like the fact that it has blu-tooth as I can just transfer my files via blu-tooth just by sitting near it, which would be cool.

What do you guys think, is there a standalone that is like the PS3?

Talking Welcome!

Welcome! I'd go with the PS3 for the player. I think it can do what you need. I love my PS3!

I don't think that all the PS3's on the market do what you want. My 60gb would, buy 40gb wouldn't. Not sure if the new model out has the SD card reader, for example, so I'd check, but I agree - go with the PS3.

you'd need the 60gb version for the sd card reader but as youre posting in £ im guessing youre from the UK and because of that id recomend the ps3 or maybe the sony s350 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-BDPS350...1597046&sr=8-1)

Thanks for that guys will check it all out.

And to be honest I was also looking at the new sony 350 as well.

Will need to see if the new PS3 comes with SD reader, but the bluetooth seems quite good as well, where I can just transfer the files with no card.

It might take some time, but hey, go make some munchies, and get some beer and bobs your uncle.

From Canada, but live in cardiff Wales, UK.

LONG STORY.

Thanks again

you can use the wireless networking capabilities of the PS3 to receive (I'm not sure about sending) audio, pictures, video. It is not possible to my knowledge to use the bluetooth for anything other than the controller.

Oh thats a bit of a downer.

I thought a blutooth did receive info wireless. Uhmm, That puts a new spin on things if thats true.

So really im just looking for an upgradable blu-ray player that has either SD card funtion or USB for movie data, and just the player then ?

Maybe will post about this bluetooth in the PS3 section.

Thanks for that.

You have yet to tell us if you are going to hook this up to a receiver. Do you want or need a player that internally decodes DTS HD MA/TrueHD?

If you have a home Wifi network, you can transfer or stream files from your PC to the PS3. BT is strictly for controllers for now.

Hey

Thanks for all your help.

I forgot I could store data on my PC and then see them on the PS3 (YES) that would be so awsome, saves me putting stuff on disc and then putting it on PS3.

And I am new at this so not sure about encoding audio types, but I will be buying myself a stereo soon so yes it will one day be connected to a AMP.

Thanks again guys for your help.
