Default Batman 3 Villains from M.C.

http://comicbookmovie.com/news/articles/5006.asp

I think this speaks for itself, but apparently Michael Caine has confirmed the next Batman sequel's villains. I know this might seem to early to some of you, but with great expectations to live up to why wouldn't they start this process now? Caine also expects Nolan to return from this vacation with a script...

can't click it. can you elaborate?

I honestly don't expect to hear anything concrete for a much LONGER period of time than it has been.

This is from the article:

In an interview with MTV News, Michael Caine seemed to confirm rumors that the next installment of the “Batman” film franchise will feature two very well-known names playing the roles of The Riddler and the Bumbershoot Bandit, The Penguin. “They’ve already got them in mind,” said Caine, when asked who he’d like to see take up arms against the Caped Crusader. “It’s Johnny Depp as The Riddler. And The Penguin is Philip Seymour Hoffman. I read it in the paper.”

So Caine is like the rest of us, reading gossip in the tabloids, right? Except for one thing…according to the actor, he confirmed the news through the studio itself.

“When Christopher [Nolan] said we were going to do ‘The Dark Knight’ next, I didn’t what that meant in Batman terms,” related Caine, who plays Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth. “I said, ‘What’s the story?’ and he said The Joker. I said, ‘Oh, s–t! How are you going to top Jack [Nicholson]?’ He said, ‘Well, I’ve cast Heath Ledger. And I went ‘Ha! I couldn’t top Jack, but if anyone could, maybe Heath could.’ And he did.

“I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘S–t, they’ve done it again!’” [Laughs]

While rumors of Depp and Hoffman have been hot topics around the upcoming film for quite some time, this is the first instance of one of the film’s stars speaking about the news, as well as Caine citing an albeit unnamed WB executive.

Meanwhile, when asked if he’s spoken to Nolan about the news or the next installment’s script, Caine made mention of Nolan’s vacation, and hinted that, “No. He’s gone. He’ll come back with a script sometime.”

Now that i've read it more closely, it seems that the exec. might be kidding around with Caine. Though Caine doesn't mention THAT aspect.

Perfect casting. But unlikely. I see one of those 2 actually signing on. Johnny Depp would be PERFECT for Nolans taste in the franchise

Default but what about Catwoman???

Not sure if any of that Michael Cain conversation is true but he didn't mention Angelina Jolie as Catwoman. I really really hope that happens in the third movie. Could you just imagine her eyes in the Catwoman mask? I'd love to see Angelina Jolie as Catwoman.

The original story had said it was producers at WB that wanted these actors. Sounds like more of the same.

When Nolan makes up his mind, he'll be right.

I think the steering wheel made a great turn in the other direction to throw us off..... I'd much rather see Riddler and Hush...... Penguin blah..... Well if Penguin it is, are we gonna see Penguins and a band of circus criminals???

I just dont want them to **** them up like Two-Face. I think TF could have been so much better, but they rushed him. I think Riddler or Penguin has to be introduced, not killed, at the end of the movie

i think... people need to stop posting threads about this. considering michael caine has nothing to do with the scripting and casting of the movie. and considering a executive said it, that makes it even more false. Those were the 2 people they've wanted since the dark knight came out. and i'm pretty sure nolan will do what HE wants

I really wish they would introduce a villain that hasn't been seen numerous times in other films or tv shows. I want to see something new. They got lucky with Joker, but Two-Face wasn't that great IMO. Good casting helps but I would like to see an excellent cast with a character that I haven't seen barely 10 years ago.

I don't think Nolan wants to do another Batman film. He made The Dark Knight because the studio finally gave him free reign over the film he wanted to make. I think he'll do another project.

It is time for all of the fanboys to hold their breath until the movie is released. You can exhale in 3 years.

Now I'm just saying, but sometimes the studios have people in mind for portraying their characters, but they haven't spoken to the actors yet or they don't get their pick. This could be a prime example: http://comicbookmovie.com/news/articles/5008.asp

"Yesterday, we reported that “Dark Knight” castmember Michael Caine claimed that as far as he knew, the villains for the next “Batman” film had been cast with Johnny Depp landing the role of The Riddler, and Philip Seymour Hoffman playing The Penguin. Today at the Toronto Film Festival, we went right to the source and asked Hoffman directly if he indeed had been cast as The Penguin.

“No one has talked to me about it ever — never,” replied Hoffman. “It happened, like, five years ago, too. It was a rumor back then and it’s still a rumor. [laughs] It’s just in the press. It’s funny.”

To further cement this issue, Hoffman added that he’d never met Nolan (”Maybe I did or met him in passing?”), and that his interest in comic book movies is purely on a fan level, and he intended to keep it that way.

“I’m such a fan of those movies,” related Hoffman. “Comic book movies in general I look forward to — I am a real cheerleader for them. I want them to do well because those are terrific stories. As a kid I was a big comic book collector. What [Nolan]’s doing is taking it in a whole other exciting great place. I’m more a fan, so the interest of being in it isn’t that great. It’s more the interest in wanting to see the next one. It’s probably better that way.”

When further pressed for his level of interest in the role if Warner Bros. approached him about the role, Hoffman said, “I don’t know. I think I’m more interested in seeing someone else do it. I don’t know if I’d be a good Penguin to be quite honest. [laughs]”

MTV? Yeah, that's a real reliable source. It's all the same crap that's been going around the internet for weeks.

In my humble opinion, I think having Penguin and the Riddler as the villains in the next Batman flick would be a mistake no matter who plays 'em. Always thought they were lame.

Show us Killer Croc or Bane, and then they might have something. Batman needs to go up against a muscular opponent this time around.
