Default Misinformation that BB told you? List them.

1. Only 720p is HD
2. Higher contrast will increase the resolution
3. You can't get HD on a 4:3 TV
4. Everything will be 1080p in a couple yrs

i havent heard any misinformation from an employee at Best Buy even though i shop there like 2 or 3 times a week but the only misinformation that went on was back when they used to sell Hd-dvd movies and the Hd-dvd movies were right next to the Blu-ray section and sometimes ill see a Hd-Dvd customer talking to a customer who is looking at the Blu-ray movies putting out a bunch of misinformation like saying Warner movies on blu-ray are not region-free and stuff like that

I don't hear any misinformation because I NEVER let the employees interact with me for anything other than to point me in the general direction of something I'm looking for and can't find on my own (which is rare). There's not a thing any of those 'kids' could possibly tell me that would be helpful or that I didn't already know.

When I bought my TV and Blu-ray player...they told me I had to have the Monster 1000HD series HDMI cable to get the full picture, and I needed the 8000HD series HDMI cable for my satellite receiver.

Thankfully I found this website before I made the purchase!

Besides HDDVD would win? I was speaking with a person I had never met urging them not to buy an xBox 360 because a new one was coming out (first HDMI model). I was an avid Blu & PS3 fan but I never tried to sway him. The Blue shirt told him HDMI wasn't important. Guy left with an Xbox premium or whatever it was called and a full priced HDDVD drive. There's no saving some people.

I only talk to 'those' people when they haven't shelved an item I know should be in stock already (Master and Commander (blu of course) just showed up this past tuesday in local best buy stores where I live.

So I wonder if that blue shirt would tell you that you need a Sony HDMI cable or a Monster.

I have heard of bb employees really pushing monster products. They must receive some type of kickback for selling those cables. Otherwise why would they care, knowing that other cables work just as well.

This really cute chick in the A/V section scoffed at me when I told her I was anti-Monster and anti-Bose.

I actually was talking to a "Magnolia" rep once. Boy that was funny. The format war was still on. I told him I was waiting for the Profile 1.1 and 2.0 player to be released to buy a stand alone BR player.

Several minutes later, he was telling me how most people just buy a PS3 or XBox 360 to get one type of playback and buy a stand alone for the other.

I dare not repeat the rest of the conversation. It included me explaining my dedicated home theater room and how the current players were not what I wanted (full audio decode of all formats on the player, rackable, etc). The deer in headlights look followed. I can summarize by saying the conversation ended with him telling me he basically worked there for the discount and used it to buy TVs in include as free gifts when he sold a house for his day job....

Oh, and by me, CC is the WORST. Thier stores are a mess. You can never find items on sale. None of the DVD or music shelves are organized.

I only walk into CC when they have a 3.99 DVD special and it is something I do not plan to wait for Blu (i.e. Caddyshack was purchased today) It was not in the discount bin either. I had to dig through the Comdey isle to find one copy.

And in my opinion, none of the big box resellers have compitent staff to engage the likes of most of the people on this forum. If you want that kind of informaiton, you need a specialty store. (I consider Tweeter a big box BTW. They are a bunch of fools. Saddly they do carry some good items.)

Most of my CE equipment has been purchased at ABT, Barretts Home Theater (they installed my home therater), or I did the research myself before purchasing anything.

To give you an idea of the difference, I walked into ABT after moving into my new house. My wife wanted new, "smaller" speakers for the family 5.1 room. She wanted Bose. I did not. The sales man took us into thier demo audio room an dplayed hte Bose. Then he played the Definitive speaker set. They actually sounded better and cost 50% less. Since it was my family room, I was not as concerned as mostly my wife and kids would be using it.

That is a good salesman. He knew what we wanted, what would work better for us, and cost us less. We eventually got a similar set for my in-laws family room from ABT as well.

If I had not moved over an hour and a half away from the store, I would have purchased my whole home theater form them as well.

Not only do they get a "kickback" as you call it, they are rated on sales of the Monster Cables... as well as service plans, and get in serious trouble in their percentages aren't up to expectations. I remember many years ago when I bought one of the early Samsung DLP sets (worst POS purchase ever, but that's another story), I got it at CC as they were the only one's that had one in stock. They didn't have a workable stand for my needs though, so the manager knocked quite a bit off the price. I refused their service plan (probably the one time that was a bad call upon reflection) and damn cables. I then went across the street to BB to look at their stands. Of course you have to wander through the HDTV section to see the stands, so I was immediately accosted by 4 employees. I thought explaining that I had just bought a set somewhere else would get rid of them, but instead they followed me around for 30 minutes trying to sell me on Monster cables and a service plan for a TV that I didn't even buy there!
