Default Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)

The blu-ray been on international release schedules a while for a December release date, but now its due in the USA on Dec 9.

I wonder if its going to be lambasted like Dark Knight for changing aspect ratios?....

Yes a good movie, after reading this I tried to find my anniversary edition dvd but it I can't find it, it will probably show up after I get the BD copy.

I hope it will include lots of bonus stuff

This is one of Kubrick's best films. Personaly I believe A Clockwork Orange is his masterpiece. Strangelove is the best black comedy ever made. Every actor is perfoming at top notch scale. This movie is a MUST OWN.

Nice. This was among the top of my wish list.

Yeah, I'm wondering about the aspect ratio.

You will believe that George C. Scott can do comedy.

(Y'know, catalog announcements like this past week are the kind you just wait for the PS3 kids to chime in and say "Never heard of it...Is it, like, funnier than 'Superbad'?", just so you can get their first-time reaction, after educating the new generation on the Classics.)

I am 21 and am fully aware of Dr. Strangelove AND Superbad. Two totally different brands of comedy.

I own a PS3 for a BD player... I would say that Dr. Strangelove is one of the best movies ever made, and "Superbad" is an accurate title (slightly entertaining).

Anyway, you should watch it with your lame ass flaming here; assuming PS3 = kid or worse. The PS3 closed the mineshaft gap on HD DUD mighty well.

Yes, Peter Sellers is great, also Peter Sellers is good and Peter Sellers tops both of them

Not flaming--Just haven't let half the board off the hook yet for never having heard of "Blazing Saddles"...

(Besides, I LIKE going to a board that's just finding out about the AFI classics for the first time:
It's sort of invigorating for an old home-theater nut to play cinematic Peace Corps Volunteer with young tribes who've never seen the Kubrick movies until now--haven't discussed the 2001 ending in years--and the new studio push for back-catalog in the last week is an excuse to get those movies off the shelf and onto new viewers again. )

haha. Well said (Cinematic Peace Corps? ) I've always wanted to see this but never got the chance (and I'm 30 this November). What I really want is the Pink Panther films.

*edit* Who the hell hasn't heard of Blazing Saddles? Philistines!

Definitely psyched for this, even though I have to admit that as a Kubrick fan, while this may be one of his best films, from a transfer POV, this is probably the least visually dynamic of his films. Yes there are some iconic shots in there. but I imagine there'll be tons of grain.

All Warner's has to do now is get off their asses and do LOLITA and BARRY LYNDON, Fox through MGM do PATHS OF GLORY, THE KILLING and Universal through Criterion SPARTACUS and we'll have almost all of Kubrick on Blu-Ray. KILLER'S KISS and FEAR AND DESIRE I'm sure won't be ever on Blu, and even as a die-hard fan, I wouldn't mind those not ever being released.

What is the story on the aspect ratio?

This is one of my favorite all-time movies, but I am unshure if I need to re-buy. In this case I might be happy with the softer DVD "old-timey" look.

I know others are already out, but this will end up being my first B&W Blu purchase..... with a movie of this caliber.... I'll double dip it, even if it's just the DVD transfered directly to a blu-ray disk, and put in a blu-ray case

Blazing what? You said rape twice.

As I've posted in the speculative threads, Dr. Strangelove is an instant buy for me, making it a quadruple dip, at least.
