Default Laser Disk

I have a lot of old laser disks that I would like to transfer to a modern media. Can I record them in blu ray format? If so I would appreciate recommendations on a recorder.

No reason I suppose why you couldn't, but since blanks cost like $10-12 or more (I haven't kept up with pricing) you may just want to hold off for now.

I think you would be better off selling those and buying well done original Blurays. If you don't plan to keep them for sentimental reasons, selling them is the best option I think.

Here's my recommendation...

a) if the movie you have on Laserdisc came out on Blu Ray, replace the LD with the Blu Ray.

b) If the movie you have on Laserdisc came out on DVD, replace the LD with the DVD.

c) If the movie did not come to DVD,... use a TV capture card to record the LD and then burn that to a DVD.

A LD has less resolution then a DVD so putting it on a Blu Ray is pointless.

I only have 2 LD's left and I've made DVDs of them so they never get used anymore. I used to have other titles but those came to DVD so I picked up the DVD and donated away the LDs.

I never bought into the Laser Disc but I remember the Columbia House mailings all the time thats had the 2 for a penny join up deal. Personally I had some VHS that I wanted perserved to dvd and used one of them capture devices and it looked as good as can be expected. I dont believe you will ever get bluray quality from a LD without extensive reauthoring of the original

why would want to burn them on blu? talking about expensive transfer!!!

transfering them to dvd will be more than enough for your needs and a lot cheaper.

I'm assuming you have some LD titles that haven't come out on neither dvd or blu....right?

Its probably not worth it as far as quality to burn then to BD. If they arent on BD already, at least upgrade to the DVD version if you have to own it. I remember my friend owned a LD player. Those things were huge lol and his were all scratched up. lol
