The RX-V663 (HTR-6160) only deinterlaces a signal from 480i to 480p. If you want the receiver to upscale all sources to 1080p, you need to select the RX-V863 (HTR-6180). Keep in mind that if your TV or source player has a good upscaler already, you don't need to have the receiver upscale. There is a big difference in price between the 663 and 863, while 1080p upscaling, and a HD radio tuner, are really the biggest differences between the two receivers. I don't think they justify the cost difference though.
If you really want 1080p upscaling in a Yamaha, I'd suggest stepping up to the RX-V1800. It offers a much better amplifier, power supplies, and Burr Brown DAC. If you hunt around online the RX-V1800 can be found around $770 or so, which is a huge bargain. Last edited by kingofgrills; 09-15-2008 at 06:14 PM. |
