Default U.K BD's on American PS3

So I saw a copy of Escape From New York (BD) on ebay.uk and was wondering if it plays on american PS3's. In other words...is the PS3 region free?

Thanks!

I don't think it will work. American PS3 is region A, unless the movie is without region, or ALL region, U.K. discs are region B.

PS3 is not region free. Escape From New York is however playable on a US player. Not that you would want to, it's a terrible disc.

Don't bother importing Escape from New York. The transfer is terrible. They could of done much better and put much more effort into it.

Really?
That's too bad. Not all BD's are created equal, huh?

So true. It's a sad thing to think about because all Blu-rays should have a transfer that is at LEAST good.

Of course not. There is such thing as a bad transfer.

This is true.

It will play in a U.S. PS3, but you wouldn't want it to.

I wonder what the engineers in their studio while doing a transfer for BD are thinking. Do they make bad transfers on purpose ? are they just in a hurry ? Are they ordered to make inferior transfers ? what gives here ?

I'm pretty sure they are in a hurry. It's a real shame. Anyways ya, I do think some are in a hurry and some just are lazy and don't care what fans of the movie want. I don't think they do it on purpose. The real point that I'm trying to get to is, they just don't care.

If you own a post-production facility, you certainly make it your business NOT to make a bad transfer at telecine. You won't get a repeat business with millions of dollars in equipment that are still being paid for.

Most likely it is the studio/distributor who GAVE them a BAD source. You need as close to the original print neg as you can. Even then, it may need some digital cleanup afterward.

Unhappy terrible

Yeah the u.k blu ray should plau on a u.s ps3 but the extra features might not work as this normally happens when u.k features are accessed on u.s machines. Don't bother though..as others have said its a weak transfer though i did notice some improvement over the dvd in the lighter scenes. Its rriddles with edge enhancement though and can be noisy too. The DTS-HD audio is quite good though i can only access the DTS core at 1.5mbps on my system. The features are all the same as the standard dvd but also has a new 30 min interview with carpenter which is quite cool. I dwait for the u.s release which will prob be better.

It's out already. I have the import of that (it's region-free).
