Default Home Theater Suggestions

Hey everyone. I was hoping for some suggestions on home theaters. Currently I am running on TV speakers itself which really sucks. Any recommendations on speakers, subs, and receivers? Kinda on a budget so looking for total of no more than $600-$700, but of course the lower the better . Here is a pic of my setup so far and it looks like a center speaker can't be placed on the TV stand (no room) so what can I do? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I was thinking about Bose for quite a while, but never knew if it's actually worth the money.

My recommended setup for Home Theater Virgins:

Polk Monitor 50's, Polk CS1 Center, and Polk 5.1 system
Athena Speaker Package and an eD subwoofer
Onkyo TX-SR606 or Onkyo TX-SR805
Monoprice- For all your cable needs

Yeah, Driver King's sig has some really great HT components. I don't think you could do much better for the price.

Nice t.v. my suggestion....... start with a receiver, and L/R/C speaker..... stretch your budget as far as humanly possible...... it's cheaper to do it right once, then to do it half-azzzzzed 5 or 6 times.

You have a nice t.v., and you're willing to spend money on blu-ray etc... don't sell yourself short with whatever audio gear you can throw together in a hurry on the cheap.

Thanks. You're right. I'm a complete noob when it comes to receivers. I heard from friends that Onkyo is really good. But there are so many to choose from. What my plan is, I want to get the small left and right speakers that has a metal stand similar to the ones for Bose and Sony. I know Bose is nice but not sure about the Sony ones. I'd like to have the center speaker the same brand as the ones to the left and right. Still debating whether I should get rears or not as well

Before even looking at Bose, I'd suggest reading the sticky in the speaker forum about them. Bottom line, many feel they are overpriced and even poor performers. Your money could be spent much better elsewhere. Here's the link:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=42602

I'd recommend a 5.1 setup. You'll definitely enjoy it much more than a 2.0, 3.0 or 3.1 setup (or any combination thereof). It's a little hard to tell from the pic, but you could set your center channel in front of the set. It looks like there's room there, but it's all black so it's hard to tell.

Thanks. I saw in Fry's ad today. They have an Onkyo 7.1 Home Theater HT-S5100. 130 watts x 7, 290 watts sub, 1080p HDMI pass through(3), Audyssey 2EQ room calibration with mic, and iPod dock included . Would this be something you'd grab if you were me? Think I'm settling with an all-in-one package deal where I don't have to buy all speakers and receiver separately. Thanks.

I just setup the polk rm6750 and I must say I was very impressed with that speaker system. I am convinced after listening to it for a few hours now that you won't find a better system for the money it costs or even at 500 dollars...

I was also very impressed with the subwoofer and I couldn't believe how big it was.. and how well it produces bass. The POLK rm6750 is probably one of the best 250 dollar speakers you can get.

Don't go the Onkyo HTIB route this time. Go with the Polk RM6750 package and the Onkyo 606 (sig below).

Really? Could you please kindly explain why I shouldn't get the Onkyo 5100? And how your recommendations for the RM6750 and Onkyo 606 is better? I'm not doubting you since several people commented good things about you, just want to know for my own knowledge. Thanks

The HTIB you showed is HDMI pass-through which means you won't get any HD audio via HDMI whatsoever with it.

I agree with Driver King about the HTIB.

My opinion would be to build it slow... Start with a Onkyo 606 and a couple bookshelf speaks that can be later used as surrounds.

Whatever you do, dont skimp on your center... It is by far the most important speaker as it handles 90% of the audio in most movies. I have a Def Tech that includes a tweeter, 5.25" x 2 midranges, and a 8" 150 watt powered sub all in one package.

Then once you have a nice 3.0 set-up, save for some nice towers and move the bookshelf speakers to the rear to complete your 5.0.

At that point you can start saving for a nice sub.

Then you will have a kickass 5.1 lossy set-up. Even if it takes a year to build, you'll be much happier then having a HTIB today. Trust me, you will want to upgrade your HTIB in less then a year if you go to a freinds house that has a 5.1 or even better 7.1 lossy BD theatre.

Hope I helped and good luck!
