the 2 i bolded will never be released on blu ray in high definition because they were shot on video tape and mastered in 480i so there is no chance at hd. eventually when the format takes off it may be released in a boxset but it wont be hd and will look the same as the dvd's

I'd imagine Fast and Furious series to be released when the new one comes out on BD. Probably around this time next year, or Christmas 09.

As for the TV shows, they were shot on video, so there is really no benefit to releasing them on Blu-ray other than packing more episodes on a disc. They will not ever be in hi-def, you can't really make 480i picture much better than the current DVDs. The Office is shot in hi-def, so releases are possible, but not scheduled or planned for this year. Fast and The Furious, they will come eventually but have not been announced for this year. You'll have to wait. Can we close the thread now? |

Even old shows shot on film won't benefit since the masters we have now are typically 480 video. The original negatives for many of these shows are either long gone or are in disrepair, too expensive to restore for hi-def. Seinfeld is a rare example as the physical film was well kept, and has been re-mastered in hi-def (albeit in a modified aspect ratio from their original airings - that's a WHOLE other topic). |

As people have said there is no way old shows like this will be released on BD as they were shot on video tape. There was a debate recently elsewhere about paramount releasing star trek the next generation/Deep space nine/voyager on BD but as all these were filmed on standard video there is no chance. Only enterprise was filmed on HD cameras so this could be released on BD. Star trek TOS was only released on HD DVD as that was made in the 60's hence it was shot on film stock. I'm afrain we'll have to be content with out beloved 70's/80's shows on DVD
