Default Movie Sounds?

Why do certain movies seem to sound better than others?

For example, for me, Batman Begins and 30 Days of night sound like crap and then Casino Royale sounds incredible.

I've only watched a few movies in bluray but I have noticed the difference in sound between flicks. Is there going to be a quality standard eventually. It's hard to guage what you want your system to sound like when movies vary like this.

Any ideas or advice?

What sort of gear have you got? Are you making use of the HD audio or are you playing it through your TV or some other antiquated AV gear?
Blu-Ray does demand the best kit to really work properly.
No good watching it through a 20" TV and playing the sound through some old Midi system...

Oh dear "houston we do have a problem?? I think batman begins sounds brilliant !! its all about the way the soundtrack has been mixed soundfreak to be honest, i dont think therell come a time when every single soundtrack will sound the same etc some will always sound bassier than others some will have more surround stearing & so on, but then again every sound track sounds great in there own right & i wouldnt want to have every movie belting out loud sound its nice to hear the odd subtle movie, in the days when it was just dolby pro logic weve come along way to sound we have today!! Enjoy!!

Oh dear... that is a loaded question! It could be any number of reasons. In order to further investigate we will need to know every detail regarding your equipment, how each piece is connected, and what the settings are set to on the equipment. Also, it would help if you research the varying opinions about the varied HD audio codecs (PCM, TrueHD, DTS HD MA).
