Post Adjusting to a Blu-ray-Only World

http://www.emedialive.com/Articles/R...rticleID=14010

This is a pretty good article that gets down to the technical side of the differences between Blu-ray and HD DVD. I'd post it as news, but it would have been more appropriate during the war. Now it stands as a good piece for historical reference. Enjoy.

You're right - that is a really good article. Wish it had come out months ago.

It's really about HD DVD production houses that had to retool their operations to make business in a BD world. So you're going to know about their gripes.

Good article.

Another problem that has confronted newly-baptized Blu-ray developers is the lack of standardized hardware. As hard as this is to believe, even at this late date, each Blu-ray player from each manufacturer is slightly different. “Conformity in the players in the real world is something that is a moving target,” says Metabeam’s Brown.
And how compatible were the LG and Samsung offerings to Toshiba built/designed boxes (everything else)?

I found the article to be a bit heavy on the "HD DVD was easier all around, but, well, I guess Blu Ray won even though it was more expensive, more difficult, bla bla".
Informative though form the point of view of the small studios who had bet heavily on the HD DVD I guess.

ha ha. I only read about the first 5-8 paraghaphs, and scimmed over the next 3 or so. But all I really gather from it is this. "We lost, they won, I'm gonna be a sore loser. Yes BD is beter but I don't care wahhh!" Ok thats my take on it. Sounds like they kinda new it was still gonna go that way but still fought it anyway becasue they could.

While I agree with many of the overall points of the article, it did seem to be overly focused on the companies that made poor management decisions to bet solely on HD DVD. The market was never going to support two HD formats indefinitely and these companies reveal how poorly run they really were.

Am I the only person who thought that this article was saying how easy it was to write code to an HD-DVD and how Blu-ray is much more difficult and it's taking some time for developers to get used to?

IMO, this article is wrote by some bitter HD-DVD owner who is "professionaly" (while not trying to sound like a fanboy) complaining about Blu-ray being the winner in the Format War.

Call me crazy I guess...

Interesting article though to say the least…
