Default How Is L.A. Confidential?

There isn't a review here or in HDD. How's the PQ & SQ?
Doesn't Warner send screeners on time either?

PQ 3.5

Movie is compressed for about an hour. Picks up though. Audio you got Dolby True HD 5.1.

Cause it's compressed pretty heavly for an HD movie for the first hour. Thats a problem how ever with the original source though.

But still it looks way better than any pervious DVD.

I don't mean to be rude, but you're contradicting yourself. If there was a problem with the source regarding softness there is nothing you can do when compressing the movie. So a heavily compressed first hour doesn't make any sense, especially since the movie takes up only about 30+ gigabytes on a BD50.

In any case, it is one of the best movies of the 90s (IMHO) and definitely worth getting.

It looks like Warner Bros. may have used an older HD telecine source for the disc. Results would have been better if the original camera elements had been revisited with a brand new, higher precision scan and treated via digital intermediate. Most new movies use that process, as do a lot of higher profile classic releases, such as Bladerunner or The Godfather.

If it's the source that's the problem, then it's not a compression problem. They could go the best route for compression and if it's a source problem, it still won't look great.

I personally thought it had outstanding PQ. Especially after having seen the original one a number of times over the years, they really did a great job on this one.

Yeah I just blind bought this and really liked it. I absolutely love Chinatown and this reminds me a lot of it due to it being film noir. I thought the picture was pretty damn good, I don't see why all the complaining.

It is a decent looking disc with excellent extra features. Warner didn't seem to go the extra mile say Paramount did on Godfather for this release in terms of restoration but this movie has never been a monster seller. It does have lossless audio for those concerned.

Yeah its awesome. The warner bashing on this release is unjust. great release. Also Poltergeist is amazing looking considering how old it is. Warner is stepping up there game
