Default Help Please.

My buddy had his PS3 die on him last night. He was able to exchange it at Costco for a brand new unit, however, he had a launch 60gig and they exchanged it for the new 80 gig. They swapped out his harddrive for him, but I guess he is having problems getting the system up and running. I have only talked to him on the phone for just a few minutes, but he mentioned something about the screen comes up saying need to install firmware 2.36. I have not seen this myself and was going over to his house tomarrow to see if we can figure this out. Anyone got any suggestions? It will not let him do anything, like go to settings, log on to the internet, he is stuck.

I believe you can download the firmware update from us.playstation.com to a blank cd, insert the cd into the player install the update that way. Hope that helps you.

Thanks fella's. That is what I thought I had to do, but can I use the flash drive to update if we cant even get to the settings? Maybe the CD will work better because of the "Disc Auto Start" feature?

If you disconnect from the Internet...completely, there's no way for the playstation to know that it needs to be updated, then you can update it without getting that message
