Thumbs up Fox Introduces New $20 Retail Price Level for Blu-ray

In a surprise move, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment appears to have introduced a new pricing level.

While back in March Fox introduced a $30 retail price for some of its less popular releases, the studio is now following Lionsgate with a budget level $20 retail pricing strategy for a subset of the studio’s older releases.

Titles with the new $20 retail price tag according to Amazon include Commando, Predator, Kiss of the Dragon, Men of Honor, Pathfinder, Chain Reaction, Entrapment, The Hills Have Eyes 2: Unrated, The Sentinel and Courage Under Fire.

Yeah, they'll discount older releases.

Hey Fox, how about a $29.99 MSRP (or less) like your competitors on ALL catalog titles?

This is encouraging. What's still discouraging is the $39.99 list price that Dodgeball will carry when it's released.

A good move by Fox! I own all of the ones I want, but it is perfect for new Blu-ray owners.

As has already been said in this thread, Fox appears to have lowered their MSRP on new catalog titles to $34.99... and not all competitors price their catalog titles at $29.99 (no, I'm not referring to WB's $28.99)... or special cases like "How The West Was Won" ($34.99) or "Nightmare Before Christmas" ($39.99), but rather Disney who earlier this year went back to charging $34.99 for their catalog titles ("Kill Bill" ring a bell, anyone?).

~Alan<~~~~~~~~~~~Who will most likely pick up "Commando" and "The Sentinel" one of these days soon...

It is a very familiar route widely discussed elsewhere.

New releases should max out at $24.99 with sales a few weeks after release for 22.99. Older titles should max out at $19.99 with special sales at 14.99. With prices like I just mentioned Blu-ray will take off and I guarantee there will be more adopters. $34.99 and $39.99 are just ridiculous and I'll never pay it.

I'm glad to hear it. I've been looking to pick up Courage Under Fire, Entrapment, Pathfinder and Chain Reaction. I just didn't want to pay $30 - 40 for them.

I'm a little confused by what you are saying.

You appear to be referring to discount prices at first ($24.99, $22.99, $19.99, $14.99), but then you move over to $34.99 and $39.99 which are MSRP prices?

What I mean by that is this:

"The Happening", an upcoming Fox release has a $39.99 MSRP for Blu-ray, but will be found online and in stores for prices between $25-$30. The DVD release has a MSRP of $29.98, but will be found online and in stores for prices between $15-$20.

If you are referring to the above prices as MSRPs, I think you'll have a long wait as most DVDs aren't that cheap, but if you're referring to sale prices, I think we'll be there shortly... just look at how far we've come so far!

This is excellent news, as these "cheap" titles will start to show up as "affordable" Blu-rays in stores that only sell at close to SRP levels. Excellent news.

Fox has had the most expensive catalog titles...glad to see it's going down.
