Default Settings Please on BDP-S300

Hi guys, I finally activated my account. Not really sure if this issue has been addressed already. How do I get my Onkyo 805 to light up Dolby True HD, my player is sony bdp-s300? What settings should I put my Sony BDP-s300 (latest firmware update installed.) Should it be auto or PCM? Thanks for the response.

I've never used that player before - but welcome to the forum. Glad you finally signed up and decided to post! It's very addictive from here on out.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help you out.

If you haven't checked the manual yet - you should give it a look. Some of them are really good about spelling out what to do to get the HD codecs.

You must set the player for PCM in order to get Dolby TrueHD. I'm assuming your hooked to your receiver via HDMI connection.

Your receiver will only show PCM, it will never show Dolby TrueHD because the BDP-S300 player is only capable of internally decoding Dolby TrueHD into PCM and sending the PCM audio to your receiver via HDMI connection. The BDP-S300 player cannot bitstream Dolby TrueHD via HDMI which would be the correct way to display Dolby TrueHD provided your receiver can decode the Dolby TrueHD codec.

Thanks for the explanation, I just notice in this settings, player in PCM, the sounds is a little bit lower than when the player is set to AUTO.

Also remember that you have to manually select the which audio you would like to listen to from the movie menu.

Welcome to the forum!

Now you're all set for the TDK release on December 9th which will have DD TrueHD.

Even if he checked the manual it wouldn't have helped in this case.

The manual says for Audio HDMI to normally select AUTO. For PCM it just says converts all audio signals to Linear PCM. When set to AUTO, the player will only bitstream lossy Dolby Digital to an AVR via HDMI. PCM is the setting he needs for decoding DD TrueHD to LPCM, but the manual doesn't say anywhere to change Audio HDMI setting to PCM.

I just downloaded the S300 manual pdf file, and it still hasn't been updated for DD TrueHD decoding after releasing firmware upgrade 4.20.
