Default Help! Almost done with my system

Hey Guys,

So I have put together my home theater system for the most part. Polk Monitor 50's for the front, Monitor 30's for the back as well as a CS2 for the center to go along with an ED A2 300 for the sub. I have a 50" panasonic plasma (which I love by the way). Now all I have left to do is find a good receiver. I have demoed and tried both the Pioneer Elite 92 with klipisch's and the Onkyo 805 with Polks (not the ones I'm getting). I liked the sound of both and really couldn't tell all that much of a difference. My question is, I can get the 805 for almost $250 cheaper then the Pioneer. Is the issues with the onkyo as bad as some people make them sound (lip sync, HEAT, and the clipping noises and delays when changing channels). I will be using the receiver mostly for HD TV, Sports, Movies and a little bit of music. Sorry this is so long but I want to get the right one! Thank you!!!!!

Bryan

No I have the Onkyo 805 and I don't have a problem with it at all. For the heat issue its not a problem...Onkyo themself has said their receivers are supposed to run hot. The lip sync issue is not a problem, either people have something setup wrong (ex. if you have both the opitical and hdmi output hooked up on your cable box it will have lip sync issues, but it you unplug one or the other it doesnt happen) or they dont know how to adjust it. Clipping...I have notice no such "clipping" and I have eagle eyes and ears!!!

I also have an Onkyo 805 and have no problems with it. I have it hooked to my DIrect TV via HDMI and it sounds great when you have an HD source and Dolby Digital. I also have a Sony BDP-350 and this BR player is awesome. The reciver does run hot no doubt but just give it plenty of room and do not put anything ontop of it but Onkyo knows it runs hot. I have no other issues and the thing rocks hard. The only thing I noticed is that there is a slight delay if I have the TV speakers on and the reciver on there is a delay between the two, I just trun down the TV speakers and it sounds great. I think there is a setting for the delay but it is so minor and when TV speakers off it is not noticable at all. I love this reciever and think they make one of the best recievers on the market.

I like Pioneer, always have, and Elite is the best. It runs cooler, has all the modes, and has power to spare. The only concerns:

1. The setup is manual - you have to fool with it a bit to configure your inputs.
2. The automatic sound leveler with the microphone is OK, but you'll wind up fiddling with it anyway.

It really has sweeter sound than the Onkyo (I've listened to both extensively - it really is noticeable with music, not as much with movies) and is a brute force powerhouse with plenty of reserve, for 8 ohm speakers, which you have.

That being said, the Onkyo has more automation, and has just as good decoding codecs as the Pioneer - at less price.

Side by side, I'd go with Pioneer (and did so, without regret). But you can buy quite a few movies with the difference in price.
