Default Interview with Peter Moore of Micrsoft in the April EGM Magazine

A couple HD-DVD snippets.

EGM:
In regard to offering HD-DVD as an optional add-on you said in the past "We're not forcing movie technology on game players, but instead are letting them choose how to personalize their experiences." If that's true why not sell a Blu-ray player as well.

Peter Moore:
Well, because...when we look at HD-DVD we're looking at a superior format. Mircrosoft is a backer of HD-DVD for a number of reasons, and I don't see any reason why we whoudl support something we don't believe in. We believe in HD-DVD.

EGM:
Why not give the consumer the choice though?

Peter Moore:
Because the consumer is choosing HD-DVD. [Laughs all around]
Look....we're not going to get embroiled in a movie-playback war. We're very clear on this. If you've already got your 360, $199 puts you in the hi-def movie playback scenario, but I'm not burdening the box with it as our competitor has done. This is about games. It's not about movies.

EGM: Does that mean you wouldn't include a built in HD-DVD player in future iterations of the Xbox 360?

Peter Moore:
No, no, it's about choice. We;re absolutely focused on consumers that want to play games, and if they're fortunate enough to be the small minority right now that have the equipment to take advantage of the new generation of high-definition movie playback then at their choice they can buy an HD-DVD player for $199

I wonder what they are going to do when Bluray wins out? Do you guys think they will make a Bluray player when it has been ruled victorious?

"Because the consumer is choosing HD-DVD. [Laughs all around]"

*LOL* not anymore... I've always wondered why Microsoft didn't consider a Blu-ray player as well since they always want consumers to have choices, seems to me they're trying to force people to support HD-DVD which contradicts what they say...

whatever anyone thinks about microsoft, they certainly aren't dumb. they may create and/or tow party lines, spread fud, and whatever else. however, if they don't win at something, they will certainly continue legacy support as always but will certainly create a newer better product. what we most likely would see would be some form of hybrid player first followed by a br only drive. jmo, but it fits for me.

This reminds me other Microsoft quotes.
"We will be market leaders this generation" - Said once in 2001 and again in 2005.
"Unlike Sony and Nintendo, we make good 1st party games and cater to all ages of audiences"
"XBox is 3X more powerful"

I want to laugh in Moore's face when his FUD comes around to bite him. By that, I mean when a few dual layer PS3 games are here. If Blu-Ray's not about games, then how come Metal Gear Solid 4 is physically impossible on 360 due to disc size alone?*

*maybe not impossible, but I haven't seen a game on 4 DVDs (or 5-6) since..ever. 4 CDs, yes, but 4 DVDs, no.

Don't forget about the 1080p games calling it pointless then later coming out with a firmware update. There was also an embarrasing speech he made at 360's launch in Japan, saying things like "when a superior culture comes in the market, it's going to bring down the empire (Sony)." and look what happened. *LOL*

Cue the blog/article praising this nonsense.
