Default Stand-Alone players which is the fastest?

Hi,

Sometime ago, I purchased a BDP-300.. But the thing was so painfully slow, i sold it and bought a 2nd PS3... I was so much happier. Movies loading in seconds rather than minutes.

Its now been a yr since i sold my BDP-300 and I was just wondering, with all the new hardware out there and new firmware for all these players... Have things got any better in terms of speed, or does the PS3 still knock the socks of every stand alone out there (speed wise)

I could be tempted back to a standalone if one is able to match the load times of a PS3.

Right now, the Sony S350 is the fastest budget player on the market, period. For the more extravagent customer, I recommend also either the Denon 2500 or the Yamaha 2900 (which is as fast or faster than the S350).

Ipurchased the S350 recently and am very satisfied with it!
I also have a ps3 and boot time does not bother me, it is quite quick,
menu navigation is smooth too

and off topic : for the negative, I'd just like in a future update a completely new main menu display in 1080p!!

my panny BD30 is pretty fast at loading movies. i have no complaints with it at all. i think the logest load time i have ever seen on this player was like 20-25 seconds.

but now they have other models like BD35/BD55 coming out...

So in answer to my question, is the PS3 still the fastest?

Also the responsivness of the old BDP-300 was FRUSTRATING AS HELL .... Like 1/2 a sec to 1 sec response to anything that was pressed on the remote.

Even the wife, who really doesn't care a single bit about this kind of stuff, said WTF is this pile of &^&$#....

Ok let me ask. How long does it take a BDP-350 to load your average Java enabled Bluray movie. And is the response times from the remote instant like they are on my ps3's?

Thx

I believe that, for the mainstream standalones, Panasonics are still the fastest.

Probably a pretty good overall assessment, but... apparently some of the other newish ones are in the same ballpark, plus or minus a few seconds here or there.

I own a Panasonic (the DMP-BD50); it's plenty fast enough (was running the DMP-BD10A previously, at the time the fastest standalone... the 50 is significanlty quicker). (But, the PS3's are still a little bit quicker yet, I've read.) The 50's ready to roll, no waiting for promised someday upgrades to the internal decoders to provide all the hi-def audio types (for those of us that can't bitstream) as is the case with the other standalones; and it can bitstream everything too.

I was never a Panasonic "fan," or so to say, until I picked up a Panny plasma and my DMB-BD30
