Default Blu-ray PS3 Playback Issue

I just purchased a LG LCD 37 inch tv, and a PS3. I got the 1000 Series Monster HDMI Cable for it as well.
Hooked it up, looks amazing. BUT whenever I attempt to watch a Blu-ray film it looks as though it's playing a lot faster then it should. I google searched, and tried messing with my tv and PS3 settings, but nothing worked.
Anyone know what to do?? I want to watch movies at normal speed!

Thanks in advance to any one who knows how to fix this!

PS - Complete Newbie when it comes to this.

I dont think 37 inch lcd would have 120hz (although i could be wrong) if it does change the 120hz from high to medium... if not i have no clue

Is that something that could be on by default? I haven't touched anything at all.
I'm very confused.

The audio sounds fine, but the video is playing too fast. like a few fractions of a second faster. it appears as frames could be missing.

In the PS3 settings try:

1080p/24Hz = Off

Are you sure it's too fast? As in, the movements look too fast or the lipsync doesn't match? Are you going through a receiver or straight to the TV from the PS3?

There may be a setting either in the HDTV or the receiver (if you have noe) for lip synch issues- you can time it out to remove that.

Otherwise, I'd recommend getting a second pair of eyes on the tv to see if it's just something you're perceiving vs. actual reality. If it was "too fast" and the audio was normal speed, wouldn't it be completely out of wack by the end of the movie?

I've had a second pair of eyes agree it's moving too fast.
I'm wondering if maybe the HDMI cable I bought is 'too good' for the tv I own.
I have been reading about frames speeding up due to 24hz vs 60hz etc etc and then something about a 3:2 drop down?? Either way, I'm thoroughly confused, and a little pissed. I just bought it, but I can't watch anything because it's annoying.

I just unhooked the HDMI and hooked up with the original yellow/red/white cable that came with the PS3....... and the picture is fine. Clearly the HDMI cable. But (and remember I know nothing about this stuff) is it possible that the cable was too good for the tv??

i highly doubt an hdmi cable can be "too good" for a TV, maybe its just faulty...take it back and get another one to try

Just called the store I bought it from, they said that perhaps since my tv only does 1080i and I bought a cable that is 120hz, that perhaps buying a 60hz cable would fix it.

Question: I was told only certain brands or types of HDMI cables with work with 120hz televisions. Is this true?
Answer: The idea that you need a cable that specifically has that bandwidth to support the 120hz feature is a fallacy used to sell overpriced cables.

Fact is, source devices play media that is recorded at 24fps, the frame rate of film. The NTSC standard which television is base on, on the other hand, is about 30hz (actually 29.97 fps). Progressive scan double the refresh rate to 60hz by drawing a complete frame with each pass rather than requiring two passes per frame. To get the films 24fps to match the NTSC''s 60 hz progessive refresh rate, devices uses a process called "3:2 pull-down." Every other frame is flashed 3 times and the other frames are flashed only twice. However this leads to a slight motion jitter due to the uneven exposure of the frames.

With a 120hz display, the TV takes the 60hz signal and doubles it to 120hz. The benefit of doubling the refresh rate is that the original 24fps goes into 120 evenly by 5. Meaning each frame is flashed 5 times per second. This leads to smoother motion in the video image.

So the signal passing through the cable is only 60hz. There are currently no source devices that send out a 120hz signal so there is no extra load on the cables bandwidth.

The HDMI cable is not the issue. The cable is like a highway; it cannot force the cars to speed up because it's super wide. The speed of the data is not determined by the cable but by the HDMI transmitter. And as other will tell you, a cheap HDMI cable can give you a good result.

If your composite connection via the MultiOut works with no speedup, then you may need to contact SCEA to repair your HDMI port.

WriteSimply, I just returned from the store with the 60hz cable in hand, hooked it up, and it plays wonderfully. No issue at all.
So, it appears it was the cable.
I thank you all for your input and advice. It's now time to go enjoy that tv!!

Just to clarify how it was fixed....
All I did was switch the 120hz cable for a 60hz cable and it solved the problem.
