Default Where can you safely get your credit score for free?

Where can you safely get your credit score for free? I see a lot of websites that offer free credit score but I don't know who to trust. Seems to me there was a trustworthy place you could get a free credit score once a year but I forgot.

thoughts?

tks

But if you are looking for the FICO score, I don't think the score comes with the free credit report from the credit companies

Some credit cards give it to you for free, like Providian.

With all the ones I've ever looked at you have to sign up for their credit monitoring service before you can get your FICO score, which is BS IMO.

Thanks, though I cannot find a free report from any of those 3, but that is online, I will call them next week sometime.

I don't think you can find out the actual number for free.
I tried from one of the three (Experian/Transuninon/etc.) a few months back, and the free credit report just lists your monthly histories, etc. The score cost like $7.95, but all of my payments have been on time so I didn't bother requesting that.

To get a free report form the three reporting companies, all you have to do is mail a note to each companies stating that you want a copy of your credit report. They have to give you a free report which will not have the FICO score. You will need to send them your name, address, birth date, soc. number.

That's what I always thought. It's my credit report and score and I don't feel that I should have to pay to view it.

You shouldnt check it if you have no reason to. Multiple inquiries on your credit score can cause it to go lower. As long as you get the report that shows you dont have unusual activity then you don't need the score.

Actually, I've read some recent articles that state self-checking your credit report no longer dings your credit....
