Hello,
I am planning on getting a blu-ray player for a HDTV i plan on getting shortly as well. But i do have a blu-ray player on my PC. I just read that Salo: 120 Days Of Sodom is now available on Region B disc. I've seen this movie before, liked it, and want it on blu-ray ![]() anyway i want to know is there a blu-ray player out there that someone can recommend for the US that can play region B and all the latest bells and whistles like BD-Live and such for under $1,000? or can someone direct me to a site that has a selection of players that does that. or maybe a brand of player that makes these kinds of players? many thanks in advance, people. ![]() -Mike P.S. if this should be posted in another part of this forum instead of here, please let me know. thanks. |

The best blu ray player is the PS3. For $1000 you can buy a UK player and a USA player which is what I have done. The benefits are simple, a PS3 has a universal tranformer meaning you can plug a 3 hole lead from your USA mains power supply and it will still function 100% even though it should be fed 220v. So for the price of about $3 (for the power cable) you have the power side sorted out.
You have another 40gb of storage, firmware updates are always ready before new releases need it, you have a 2nd gaming machine, you can put them together and share cables/controllers. This is my setup. Top shelf is UK player (320GB HDD installed) and 2nd tier is USA machine with 60gb default. I can plug both systems at the same time. Its just a matter of putting region A in A and region B in B, or region free anywhere. ![]() In this case, both are using 220V mains supply, since im in the UK. The American power strip on the floor is not used for my PS3's. They are for my other games consoles not in the picture. |

Try this site for modded BD players that are region free:
http://www.bluraymods.com/ There are other ways to get all region BD playback. I believe certain models of the LG hybrid (Blu-ray & HD DVD) player can be made region free via code. |
