Default Consumer Reports Faux Pas

Mods, if you feel this needs to be moved to one of the other forums, please do so.

Just got my latest CR, and they list the 100 top products in this issue. Well, they have the Panasonic DMP-BD50 listed as:

"High-Def DVD Player"

Okay, it's high-def, but let's get the terminology correct, okay? At least they go on to call it a Blu-ray player in the description...

They've also listed their top picks in terms of displays (for what it's worth). They are:

60" plasma - Pioneer Kuro PDP-6020FD
58" plasma - Samsung PN58A550
50" plasma - Panasonic TH-50PZ800U
52" LCD - Samsung LN52A650
47" LCD - Vizio VO47LF (I apologize for even listing this! )
40" LCD - Samsung LN40A550
37" LCD - Sony KDL-37XBR6
32" LCD - Panasonic TC-32LZ800

Yeah, CR isn't the best place to get TV buying advice, but at least they got it right with the Pioneer and Pany plasmas.

Yeah - they should have just put out an article saying that they were a bunch of noobs to HT

But yeah - there were right on with the Panny and Pioneers. But still....Vizio???

High-def and Blu-ray are the same thing now, right?

CR is a great resource, if you are buying a blender or a vacuum cleaner. Pretty much things where sophisticated and simple users are really looking for the same thing as far as performance. But for electronics, health care and food, they are pretty much useless.

The problem with CR is they are a jack-of-all-trades. I find there language describing the pros and cons of HD very weak. I will stick to a dedicated A/V mag.

I wouldn't go that far. They did rate the Kuro #1, as it should be and gave very high marks to the Pany 800U. They look at things scientifically, and not with the eye/ear of an HT enthusiast.
