Arrow Christopher Nolan Signed For Batman 3?

I've been reading rumors about preproduction since last week and this article from cinema blend talks about them and the signing Nolan for Batman 3:

Quote:
Despite rumors to the contrary, it looks like Christopher Nolan may now indeed be signed to direct a sequel to The Dark Knight. The newest edition of Production Weekly went out this morning, and they list Nolan as the official director of Batman 3, along with Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman in the cast.

They further confirm some of the rumors which were swirling around earlier this week, listing Batman 3 as slated to go into pre-production in February of 2009. On Wednesday IESB.net attempted to debunk the rumors of the film’s imminent pre-production when they were told by a WB exec that the film “is not in pre-production and is not getting ready to shoot”. That’s not necessarily wrong. It’s not in pre-production and it’s not getting ready to shoot… right now. It will however be in pre-production this coming February.

Production Weekly is not normally prone to exaggeration. In theory, they get all of their information directly from official sources and not internet rumors. Still, it’s somewhat surprising that Warner Bros. would give that information to Production Weekly before they’re able to make a big, splashy announcement themselves. This Batman franchise is sort of a big deal after all.

Good news (if true). I wasn't completely confident that he would return to helm the picture. Thanks for sharing.

NICE i know this movie will kick f***ing ass but i dont want people comparing it to the dark knight cause TDK was a gift from God(Nolan) and it would be sad to watch the 3rd movie getting bashed by fanboys just cause the 2nd one was too damn great

Begins was great, TDK was perfect...they're all made by the same people, so it's possible ALL THREE movies in this trilogy could be great!

I've unfortunately got to disagree. Batman begins was fantastic. TDK was a wonderful movie..... as a movie. As a Batman movie it lost it's feel. As a result I felt that Begins was a better batman movie than the TDK. I hope 3 is as good as the first 2 and returns to the feel of batman more.

Be careful though, especially with all the character rumors. (Although I have faith in Nolan)

Spiderman was great and part 2 was even better and set records at the time. People couldnt wait for a sequel after a taste of spidey in the original.
Then they just lost it and went way too much for a Homerun and part 3 sucked.

I like Begins better in some regards, and definitely dont think TDK was perfect. Maybe a perfect sequel, especially dealing with expectations people had. If Nolan can keep a level head and not get to smart for his own good, part 3 could be great along with the other 2. It certainly will live off of the success of TDK and when it hits theaters will probably break all kinds of records.

Great that Nolan and the rest of the cast is back. TDK was flawless so I don't how they will top it but if someone could do it, that man is Nolan.

The whole cast has there job cut out for them with the new one.I think that Nolan and the writers has to come up with one hell of a story to beat TDK including a better villain.

The biggest problem with Spiderman 3 was not that they went for a homerun, it was that there were too many cooks in the kitchen. Too many people at the studio started having opinions and they wouldn't let Sam Raimi make the movie he wanted to make. This is confirmed by Raimi and the cast in the commentary track re: script changes while they were shooting and a studio mandate that Venom be included in the movie even though the original script didn't contain the character, and Raimi didn't want him in the movie.

If WB is smart, they won't make the same mistake, stay out of Nolan's way and let him make the movie he wants to make like they did the last 2 times.

Batman00 - My bad! you'll probably be the first to confirm this story!

I don't know that WB is one of those smart studios. If it's true that Nolan has signed and agreed to a date, then I would think he has a very strong direction already in mind. As far as the The Dark Knight straying a bit as a Batman film, I think that to no one's fault, The Joker became the main focus of the movie and Bale ended up almost in a supporting role. The movie was great and Ledger deserves all the praise he got for his work as The Joker, but (for me) the third movie needs to focus squarely on Bale as Wayne/Batman and his detective skills. IMO there should be no greater detective in that universe (and in Dark Knight the Joker was always two steps ahead of him).

How reliable is Production Weekly? Is this an official hollywood "movies in production" bulletin, or is it some sort of fan based webzine?

This is big news if true. Though I am sad that there will be no Joker. That line in The Dark Knight where the Joker says, "You just couldn't let me go could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible aren't you? You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness, and I won't kill you, because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever."

Clearly, they had plans for the Joker. The big issue to overcome will be...how do they move the same themes forward, but without the Joker? If anyone can do it, it's Nolan & Co.

TDK was superior in every way to begins IMO

Begins was a great start to rebooting the franchise & told a lot more dialogue parts to add into how he became batman for the first half & didn't seems to have a lot of action sequences until the second half

TDK was able to tell the story with action packed scenes from beginning to end cause the joker was constantly on the move causing chaos & destruction so it was a dynamic story that allowed pretty much non-stop action compared to begins

Nolan has proved to be a good director & i feel he has done a superior job than raimi did & Batman 3 will hopefully top the previous two

Depp is perfect for the riddler & WB would be mad not to get him if Nolan is telling a story about the riddler & wants Depp

The difference is that Nolan is going to do a villan that he wants to do and likes. In Spidey 3 the dude didn't want to put the Venom character in there. He put it in there because the fans wanted it. So he did it to make us happy even though he knew nothing about the character.

very true on how Raimi was pretty much forced to throw Venom into the mix, as a result it was trash by fanboys who in the first place wanted to see Venom but realize it was a no-no to begin with.

lets hope that Nolan gets the creative freedom he deserves with the next third installment of Batman.

I really hope this story is with the riddler and im prayingggg its Depp. He would be an amazing riddler. However, I am very confident that IFFFFF Nolan is doing this he will do it right, he actually cares too much about his films to let this film be crap.

I agree. Spiderman was good. Spiderman 2 was great. Spiderman 3 was the worst in the series as they tried to stuff too much into one film.

I wish they'd kill off Kirsten Dunst already.
