I dont get all the hype about Iron man! - Blu-ray Forum

I bought it a couple days ago and watched it a couple times. I knew it seemed like a big deal on this site(thats the main reason I bought it) . I mean it was alright but not that special to me. I just dont get why everyone was so hyped, and Id never heard of the comic book.

First this belongs in the Movie Discussion section. Second I know what you mean when you say you were disappointed. I blind bought this as Iron Man was my favorite comic book as a kid + it was getting tons of praise. Anyways I was somewhat let down simply because people were comparing this to TDK (which I love) so I expected something pretty stellar. Now don't get me wrong it's a solid, fun movie (8/10) w/ an awesome cast imo. But I guess I just had too high of an expectation going in to this.

I liked IRON MAN better than TDK. There....I said it. I feel like a huge weight has been taken off my back.

That's exactly why it was so loved by everyone. They took a low profile, B-class Marvel character and turned it into a critical and financial triumph that surprised everybody.

It's one of the biggest-grossing, most popular films of the year, the blu-ray is produced pretty much flawlessly. The character was a comic book favorite for decades. So yeah, you're not gonna find many people who think it's "no big deal".

How is it even possible for someone to have never even heard of Iron Man? Seriously wtf.

This is a major Marvel comics super hero we are talking about here.

Bear in mind two things:

A) Hype creates unrealistic expectations. Everyone who saw it didn't know what to expect. Once they saw it, they liked it, and told everyone how great it was. Anyone who saw it only later would naturally be a little disappointed.

B) Many of the people on this site grew up on comics, or at least discovered an interest in them later on. That was the reason so many were excited to see it in the first place.

I agree about being disappointed, I listed mine on ebay today. The movie to me was ok, wish I wouldn't have blind bought it. But to each their own.

not a comic book fan ... loved iron man. Haven't seen it yet on blu-ray. Still in my shelf. Told my friends I'd wait so we could all watch it on Sunday

You don't have to be into comic books to know who Iron Man is. It's pretty much a household name.

HAHA. Good point. I felt the way you do about the Spider-Man and X-Men movies. I liked them when I saw them in theaters, but when the "new" wore off and I saw them on DVD, it was a bit of a let down the second time around. I'll take a break from them all, and by the time I get them ob BD, I might love them all over again. Or waste a s***load of money.
