Default Riddick: Furya

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Vin Diesel and David Twohy are reuniting for Riddick: Furya, the fourth installment of the action series that launched with the 2000 hit Pitch Black.

Twohy will direct his script. Diesel will star and produce under his One Race Films banner alongside Samantha Vincent, who will also produce.

Rocket Science and CAA Media Finance will launch worldwide sales at this week’s EFM.

In the new film, Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins by the Necromongers. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new enemy. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.

Diesel and Twohy followed Pitch Black with 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick, and 2013’s Riddick.

“Our legion fans have demanded it for years, and now we’re finally ready to honor their call-to-action with Riddick: Furya,” Twhoy said. “My collaboration with Vin and One Race has spanned 20 fruitful years, as together we’ve created three movies, two video games, an anime production, and motion comics for the internet. This new big-screen event will see a return to Riddick’s homeworld, where we finally get to explore Riddick’s genesis.”

Diesel continues as one of Hollywood’s most bankable action stars, headlining the Fast and Furious Saga and voicing Groot in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Other credits include Saving Private Ryan, xXx, and Bloodshot. He will next be seen in Fast X, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, and “ARK: The Animated Series.”

In addition to writing and directing the three previous Riddick films, Twohy’s scripting work includes The Fugitive, and he wrote and directed the alien horror pic The Arrival, and supernatural thriller Below.

I enjoyed the last Riddick movie. It was an entertaining B-movie. As long as Diesel is more credible than in the newest Fast movies, I'm game.

Hopefully this will lead to the previous films getting UHD releases.

Diesel may only be a one dimensional actor, but not many can maintain three movie franchises that entertain.

I feel like Pitch Black was a damn great movie all the way back before Vin Diesel had the ridiculous off the rails Fast & Furious entries. The 2nd Riddick movie admittedly was a bit meh and the 3rd didn't improve things by much, but if they can get this a bit more on point. I definitely think it will be a solid watch.

I'm a big Riddick fan.

Hoping this happens sooner rather than later.

It's already been 10 years since the last film! It sucks having to wait this long between films!!

I'm still a little discouraged because they haven't announced when filming will begin, so it's probably not until Vin is done with the NEXT F&F.. ugh

To put things into perspective
10 years have gone by since the previous thread, that’s how long we are waiting for another sequel.

The only reason Riddick was a (modest) hit, was because they kept the budget super low. Seriously, it's kind of amazing what they managed to do with just $38 million.

So unless they keep the budget low again, I don't see another Riddick movie being successful.

But at the same time, I hope they go big with this one, because I really don't want yet another remake of Pitch Black like the last one. For all its faults, you can't deny that Chronicles was ambitions, probably too much for its own good.

I like Riddick 2013, but I know what you mean. I want a bit more scope and mythology. I seem to recall Twohy saying the mythology would be expanded a bit with this one. And I think you'd have to if you explore Riddick's origin and Furya.

They were taking a big risk when they made the 3rd one, Chronicles bombed both critically and financially and another failure would have buried Vin's passion project for good.

I can't really fault them for playing as safe as possible with Riddick (really don't like that title tho, makes it needlessly confusing), it absolutely needed to be a hit.

It's their pet passion project now, financed independently. Vin owns the rights.

Twohy is an underrated filmmaker. He does a great job with the films. They're very well crafted.

That being said, the "Elementals" from Chronicles was probably going a bit to far into fantasy. So it's not always a bad thing for the budget to be knocked down a bit in my opinion.

Potentially they have one more film planned after this one? Who knows, plans change and Vin ain't getting younger.

I want to see the UnderVerse, so hopefully that's still planned after Furya.

It's just, fu#k me, I'm tired of waiting 10 years between films.

With all the crap that gets thrown onto infinite streaming services these days, why does this take so goddamn long?

Wasn't the 2013 film a bomb critically and financially too?
