Panamax 5300

My APC battery backup died and I need another surge/line conditioner for my HT. I was looking at Best Buy and noticed they had the Panamax 5300 but I also noticed that the Panamax website indicates if the unit was not purchased from an authorized dealer, they will not honor any warranty. I used the search feature on their website for authorized dealers in my area and Best Buy was not on the list. My question is it ok to buy it from them and would they honor any warranty should I need it? Also the unit seems kinda pricey but comparable to prices online, could I get away with something cheaper and still have peace of mind that my equipment is being protected?

Yea man Best Buy is listed on the list and any Best Buy you purchase it from will be an authorized dealer. I have the 5300 and absolutely love it. But as far as something cheaper that would be comparable would be the APC H15 which also does voltage regulation if you want another APC.

edit: I wouldnt do Monster though...overrated and not as good of quality IMHO

How did your APC fail, I am curious to know.

Well, the battery in it is bad and I need to replace it. Now the battery is very heavy and I live in Hawaii. Shipping is gonna kill me on that. The cost of the battery and shipping is going to cost more than I paid for the unit itself. At this point I figured I may as well buy something else. The Panamax looks more like a HT component versus a battery backup for computers. It looks cool, probably does a better job (no battery backup), but cost a hell of a lot more $499! Ok so Best Buy is a authorized dealer so thats good. Now I just have to get over the cost of it and suck it up and go down there to buy it! Anyone suggest something else I could get locally or even online?

So does the blue light on the front panel always stay on? How dim can you turn it down? Does it bother you while watching movies/tv? Just wondering how bright it is in a dark room and if its a eye sore.

No they always stay on, but you can get them pretty dim. I have them turned up a half way. But it doesnt affect watching a movie at all.

I'm with you D , I got my 5300 on friday and I can't stopping looking at while I watch tv ,It's a good looking component,As for dimming,I think it has 3 different dim settings and yes you leave it on all the time since there is no power button that I know of.

yeah the new monster model looks cheap,The mettalic face on it feels like plastic plus the 5300 has more lights to look at

I was over at my father-in-law's watching a football game this weekend, and there was a bad storm. During the storm, the audio would pop and then lower in volume. I kept asking if we should turn off the equipment or if he had any kind of surge protector. They insisted it was fine. I cringed as his nice B&W speakers popped lightly and then lowered in volume for a moment. I wonder if his Denon receiver was getting something or it was just the cable reception.

ANYWAY, point being I was thinking of picking something like this up. However, so far this discussion has been about the looks and the pretty blue light. Can anyone recommend a cheap (like, $200 or below) yet good solution? Does it not exist? If so, what reasons should I buy a more expensive one?

Just looking for some information. If I can find a good deal, maybe I'll buy two and give one of them to my father in-law.

Well for $200 all your going to get is probably a nice power strip that has surge protection with a little bit of filtration. But you should really step it up to something like this. It will do your power monitoring/filtration and surge protection.

The level of filtration, outlets, protection, and power all get better as you move up the latter in the Panamax and APC products.

Should work, just look on the back of the coupon and it should say what it excludes. Usually it excludes like, bose, martin logan, vienna, bdi, and companies like those. Just look on the back and if it doesnt say it should work
