Question Movie age vs Blu-ray

Hi all! Just joined a few days ago. Lots of great threads.

So I am a big movie buff, and after getting a little bit hosed on converting vcr to dvd, I'm taking things slow with going to Blu-ray. Any new movie that comes out I of course will get on Blu-ray, (wanted, Iron man, Wall- E, etc) but as for older movies I personally have tried to force a 5 year rule. (which is hard because of my "collector" mentality)

I don't claim to have the eye of an expert. And to me it seems like a bit of a waste to re-buy a movie in Blu-ray that won't benefit from it. I realize there is up conversion, but will The Blue's Brothers or Buckaroo Banzai really look any better in Blu? And would I even notice? I'm not going to watch the movie in dvd then watch it again in Blu-ray. (though I guess that would be a good test) I got the first 2 DBZ movies on Blu-ray and they look no different than the dvd's I had.

So what are your thoughts? Why buy old movies on Blu-ray? I'm honestly interested in peoples views and reasons on this. Perhaps if a logical, or compelling reason is put out I'll change my view and start replacing more movies. But right now it just seems like a waste of money. (remember I said I am replacing movies made in the last 5 years.) Thanks in advance.
