Amazon says the BD35 will be out on October 25 and the BD55 on October 28.

Yeah I saw that.... I think I am going to pick up the 35... They are basically the same specifications, except the 55 will support 7.1 over analog. Since I dont have an old reciever, I think the 35 would be the best bet for me.... Wonder how they compare to the Sony's?

You know, something is strange about these emails. I placed my order the same day, only 7 hours earlier, 10:31, and my delivery estimate is 11-10 to 11-17. You got my email BIslander, and I want it back.

I just pre-ordered from Amazon. Finally, I have found a 2.0 player that both decodes and bit streams DTS HD MA and TrueHD. I was planning on picking up the Sony 550, but I really don't need the analog outs.

what i was a little confused on was the comments about it able to decode without a newer receiver? how would you hook it up then? i saw something on 7.1 analog audio, but does that mean your running analog cables from you player to your receiver? would not HDMI be better than that? thanks

The 7.1 analog audio outputs are just for that reason to allow anyone with 5.1 or 7.1 inputs to utilize the players internal decoder. This will allow the playback of the new codecs of Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD MA. As far as HDMI goes, well the jury is still out on whether or not this new hook-up is better than descrete, single cables for each channel. While I have used both HDMI and analog outs, it's too close to call, although HDMI is a single (one) cable as opposed to 8! It's now probably more of a convenience to use HDMI over the old analog line. Personally, I do find it easier to deal with.

i hear ya, but i could save some money by not upgrading my receiver now and buy the BD55 and hook it up 5.1 for now. what kind of cables would you use for the analog audio hook up?

Standard audio cables - the red and white ones ued for analog stereo. You run six of them from the player outputs to the matching inputs on your AVR. Then, you select the analog inputs on your receiver (might be called external inputs).

Your receiver's bass management and speaker distance settings will be ignored because the audio is already converted to analog. So, you will need to go through speaker set ups in the player (how many? large or small? set the distances - the same stuff you did with your AVR when you first set it up).

LFE (the .1 channel) is sent to the AVR 10 to 15db lower than the other channels. So, you will need to boost it back up in your AVR in order for the bass to sound right. Many receivers have a setting for the analog inputs that will be called something like SW Boost.

Analog is a bit of a pain to set up. But, the audio quality makes it well worth it. It beats buying a new receiver just to get HDMI.

so basic cables is ok to use? no need for those expensive gold plated ones right?
