Horror/Comedy spoof movies can play really well in October. Scary Movie 3 opened to 48 Million on its way to 110 Million (rebounding after Scary Movie 2's 20.5/71.3) and Boo! A Madea Halloween opened with 28.5 Million on its way to 73.2 Million. Sure Scary Movie 5 did terrible (14.1/32) but it also looked terrible and released in April. It also didn't even have series regulars like Anna Faris or Regina Hall. I'd seen 1-4 in the series but even I didn't bother with this one.
If they could actually make it funny again and get good comedy writers (not those cheap spoof writer hacks) I think another film could do pretty well during Halloween month. The first two in the series were easily the best for me. How about hiring the Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil guys? That movie was a riot and better than any of the Scary Movie films. |
