Just watched Poltergeist over at my friends house and it was awesome! The PQ/AQ is great. The screen was so clear and you could hear the different sounds coming from all over the room. After watching it I'm definitely going to go buy it!

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/reviews.html have reviews of both these. Poltergeist gets a 4/5 score on both image and sound (ok, only 3 and a half on sound...), and Carrie gets a 2 and a half for the image and 2 for sound.
But how can Poltergeist be a PG rated movie? It's been a while since I saw the movie, but the scene where one of the scientists eating the chicken and ripping his face off in front of the mirror must be far beyond a PG rating?? But hey, as long as there's no nudity I guess American ratings will pass anything to the kids... ![]() |

While this is true (no one should expect a dated catalog release to look as good as a recent film), there have been very impressive catalog transfers thus far to date; The Shining and the 1978 original Halloween both have very stellar transfers. They don't have that tremendous pop that the newer releases have, but the transfers are still very impressive with nice clarity and rich colors. Many of the daytime scenes in Halloween look as if they could have been filmed yesterday--if the wardrobe hadn't given them away. As for Poltergeist, the PQ was pretty decent, but it doesn't look anywhere as impressive as those two older films. Perhaps Warner didn't want to give it a better treatment or perhaps that's the best they could do with the original source. Nonetheless, Poltergeist's transfer, in my opinion, is just slightly above mediocre.

You guys are nuts. I thought Poltergeist looked fantastic for being a 1982 film. The original snapper and re-release DVDs did not do it justice, but the Blu-ray looks phenomenal! And the TrueHD soundtrack is incredible too. You guys expect too much. Again, the film is from '82, not '02.
